PS2 Splitfish edge fx controller hacking?

Hello everyone.

Maybe a crazy idea but since I have started playing Operation Wolf and Thunderbolt on the PS2 (Taito Legends) I have always wondered how nice it would be to use the edge fx controller with those games.



But it is not possible to assign left analogue stick to "mouse"!
On the other hand, the game itself doesn't give the possibility of changing the controls.
Such a shame, the in-game cross hair is just begging for precise control.



Hence my question, assuming it is possible, what would take to make the change?
(I have never opened this controller so I have no idea about the difficulty level involved in such hack.)

Or, would it be easier to hack the software (game) to make the left analogue stick permantely set to the right stick (which would give edge-fx controller compatibility right out of the box)?
