    Hi All,

Does anyone know the 'SCPH' number of this PS2 stand. I really want to get hold of one but I cannot find one anywhere, even on Yahoo Japan.

Any suggestions on where I could get one? Also any ideas on the model number of it?

Was that stand ever actually made, isn't that just a concept?

I ve never seen the hard disk externally like that besides the concept pictures, so it's safe to assume that they werent made.

If you've seen the stand, does this mean that you own/see the hard drive in the picture as well?

The harddrive was released. I dont know much about ps2 but i think it was made for earlier PS2s which did not have the space for hard drive.

The first generation of PS2 Linux kit released in Japan came with an external hard drive, and I've seen many for sale on Yahoo Japan. There is also a development kit version of the hard drive (it's the same thing as far as I know, but it has a different part number). It it only suitable for the first model PlayStation2's with a PCMIA slot in the rear. As for the stand, it wasn't part of the Linux kit, and I've never seen one for sale either...., although if someone find a few new examples, let us know!

And to think that I thought all PS2 had a PCMCIA slot in the rear. Which model onwards was it released with the IDE?

Did the external hard drive have a cable that hung loosely connecting the HDD and the PS2 or was it some kind of hard material in order to set a defined distance and force the drive to be placed as depicted?

On the off chance you can't find one why don't you make one yourself? Just buy two regular ones, cut them to fit and glue/melt them back together.

Isn't that like making an xbox debug kit with some green spraypaint?

Just cut the standard stand in half, get some styrene, and some good adhesive and create one, with a bit of luck, no one would ever notice the difference

I've seen the stands, but only at press events. I'm not sure that they were ever sent to developers. I've never seen one for sale either way.

On the other hand, it would be something that was only given to japanese developers, and they tend to be a bit better about leaking dev hardware onto the black market...

Hmm, I'm quite sure these were sold at Japanese retail. It is certainly something I'm looking for as well. I remember when I was in Japan a while back I remember a HDD demo unit with FFX, I'm 99 percent sure it had the external hdd and one of those stands. The external HDD looks damn cool IMHO, one of the only reasons I'm glad I own a SCPH-10000!

It depends. If he wants it as a collectable then yes it is. However if he wants it for functionality though I'd say no.

I know it exists - and I'm pretty sure it was released to the general public but in Japan only. This type of stands was for use with the SCPH-10000, SCPH-15000 and the SCPH-18000 which all had PCMCIA sockets on the rear and used the cool external HDD. The internal one is way more practical though....

PS2 consoles from the SCPH-3000x series onwards had the IDE hard drives (internal ones).

As for the idea about gluing two regular ones together - that sounds great!! Why did I not think about it. I'd rather get the real deal but if it proves to much hassle then I'll just make one!

Any ideas on what to stick it together with - good old Loctite super glue will do the trick won't it....?

I might use plastic epoxy to stick the two halves together. It'll let you cover and sand down the crack in the middle.
