Hey, I have a couple of test units, and I've had some luck patching and running ISOs. However, there's a few things I can't seem to get running. First off, there's HDloader. I can't seem to get shit installed. Seems to be the version I have won't support a lot of the games I install, and any other version I download and try to patch gives me "error patching disc." Also the same with swap magic. I know it seems redundant to burn swap magic for a test unit, but I like playing with non-game programs made for game consoles. Anyone written/seen/read a faq on this very subject or have the ability to help?
latest version of hdl..(http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16265) http://sksapps.com/hd/HDLOADER8C.rar burn and enjoy I use WinHIIP to install my games..
don't know if you have access to Mem Cards from a test unit but if that's the case or if it also has the flaws the fat PS2 had regarding ps1 games (with certain files on the MC you could when you put a regular ps1 game load binaries), why don't you install ps2 key launcher on on of these and then also put hdloader on the MC and naplink/faplink to upload the binaries you want to test from your pc ? I ve done so on my chipped PS2 and if I want like to upload an iso to the hdd, I just fireup the network utility to upload it to hdloader partition (which is damn slow to transfer but i'm just lazy to take the hdd out and plug it on a comp to change the isos)
cool, i'll start research when I get home. I was unaware that you could upload stuff directly from your pc
fyi this is what I use from the pc side (windows though clients exist in CLI and even for linux I guess ) inlink from http://inpulse.planet-d.net/ and on the ps2 side : http://ps2dev.org/ps2/Loaders/PS2_side_boot_loaders/PS2Link_v1.46 anyway you could find info on the above side (ps2dev)
http://rapidshare.com/files/240888452/Master_Disc_Patcher_v30.zip this will patch any ps2 or ps1 image to be a master copy
I've had next to no success (2 games worked properly) converting images to master disc... hdloader does not seem to be patchable (among others), mainly due to the name of the exe not matching the expected pattern... renaming it doesn't seem to help either (but I may be mistaken in my cd/dvd gen process) Can anyone enlighten us with a tutorial or perhaps more info on what's going wrong...? I'd prefer to simply learn how to properly make master discs- is there some other tool that might facilitate this process easier? thanks
Rename the executable (I suggest Ulaunchelf, you can use it to run other PS2 apps from CD/MC/usb flash drive) you want to run to something like SLUS_000.00 and don't forget to edit the system.cnf file accordingly. Use cdgenps2 to create the bin/cue with the system.cnf, the slus file and all the other files you want on the disc. Use the Masterdisc patcher to patch the .bin disc image to your region Test unit, it will work.
man if the only goal is to install/use hdloader you should better look for ulaunch elf and/or free mc boot...you'll be able to store apps on usb stics or your memory card and as said even use the above tools to upload your own code to the ps2 ...
it's not just that, but hdl was a good example of what I was curious about. Ended up trading off my modded ps2's in bits of trades for my yaroze/debug systems, so the test will have to serve as my main system for testing game hacking, and I did not realize exactly how tempermental it was in regards to master discs until I had received the system... between that and the ant invasion.... anyway, thanks for the tip- I'm sure I had tried that route (rename+edit, cdgenps2, patch), but I'll go over it again and document my process as I go in case I have problems still... Thanks!
if you do your iso on ps2 cdvdgen, you don't need to patch it afterwards as cdvdgen makes masterdisks automatically. i tested that on a TOOL just a few days ago actually and the target game ran fine after being rebuilt. No patching needed.
just copy the master disc sector from another master disc image by hand using a tool such as winhex it works just as fine.
Mugi- THANKS! - worked great for what i was trying- also made editing the discs easier- of course.. getting it all to work in WINE was a pain in the rear, but all good in the end.. still setting up a dedicated win 95/98 box for psx purposes... Sadly, it seems the laser in my TEST is a bit shoddy, only wanting to work correctly in vertical on cdr/dvdr media- originals seem fine in either mode. ah well.. might look into options for replacement, although I don't want to disassemble the damn thing again...
