http://www.focalprice.com/GB071W/PS2_to_Wii_Converter_Adapter_Cable_White.html Check this out!! I'm intrigued on if this works, and how well?
I LoL'ed. I loath the Dual Shock with a passion, why the fuck did someone make this? I d snatch an XBOX 360 one in a heart-bit, and that could plug right into the butt of my Wii no questions asked!
It probably works fine, just like the official Nintendo Super Famicom controller attachment. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually took one apart to see how it's done.
I hate the dual shock also but it's REALLY popular... My Pelican arcade stick doesn't work with SF2turbo on Wii... So I wonder if the ps2 port on the wii controller will work.
I never understand this hate on the Dual Shock design. I mean, i'm not saying it's best controller ever designed, but it's a good one nonetheless. If it were so bad, they wouldn't keep the basic design on 3 console generations! Not only the gamers, but the press would criticize them so badly, they would have to change plans. On the PS2, i prefer using the Logitech Cordless Action controller, but it's mostly because it's wireless and has better grip. Anyway, i don't see people criticizing the american Sega Saturn controller and the big Xbox 1 controller. These were indeed bad, and both companies had to make a re-launch with the japanese versions, that were indeed way better. PS: For those who want, there's will be a PS3 controller with the Xbox 360 design. http://www.powera.com/ps3/registration_pro_elite.asp http://xtremepk.7forum.net/ps3-f49/...ess-xbox-360-controller-for-the-ps3-t5974.htm
I agree, Johnny. I actually think the Dual Shock series controllers were/are pretty good, except for the d-pad. But then the d-pad on the 360 controller kinda sucks too. I think the original Sega Saturn controllers (the grey, Japanese controllers and their counterparts in the west) probably had the best d-pads of any controller. Although, I also have a Mega Drive controller (a European one) that seems very similar to the Saturn one. Oddly enough that European controller is the only one I have that seems passable; the other two Mega Drive controllers I have (an American one and a Japanese Victor one) have really crappy d-pads. I wonder if maybe the d-pads degraded over time or if the European one was just built better? Anyway, I can kinda see why they don't have Saturn-style d-pads on modern controllers; it would be too bulky, and most newer games don't use the d-pad much anyway. I hope my rambling makes some kind of sense.
I don't like the DS pads either, but with all the Virtual Console titles, downloadable retro style games and several arcade ports including shooters and fighters, a PS2 adaptor makes sense to me: Keep arcade sticks in mind! ;-)
That's probably because most people don't know about anything better, or they just use the analog sticks, because those are decent on the Dual Shock. The D-pad has always been horrible ever since the original one on PS1. Why the hell would anyone design a D-pad with no diagonals? I've seen people criticize the original Xbox controller all the time, especially when the Xbox was new it seemed like every stupid gaming webcomic had to have a joke about how big it was. The original US Saturn controller...not so much because the Saturn wasn't that popular, but everyone who knows what they're talking about hates that original design.
You sure the American MD controller is an authentic Sega one? Over the past decade or so there have been a lot of 6-button MD controllers that are actually Majesco reproductions with bad D-pads. I got one of them and always wondered why the D-pad sucked compared to my 3-button controllers, until I found that out. I've read that there are so many patents on D-pads it makes developing a decent one really hard. Dunno if it's true, but it would at least be somewhat of an explanation. The Saturn controller is still by far the best non-analog pad ever made.
I think the advantage here is that now you can use PS2 controllers on games that don't support GC controller input. Also, this adapter opens up the possibility of using Arcade Sticks and and other PS2 compatible controllers, not just Dual Shocks.
Indeed. Arcade Sticks, Pads like the Street Fighter XV Anniversary, and other awesome PS2-Only options immediately came to mind. Play-Asia has similar units too, methinks. At least, the gamecube ones have been there for years. I'd get these in a heartbeat to play Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom with good pads - as it's cheaper to get two of these than another classic controller (which is in itself pretty awesome).
Great, a pad that's worse than the Wii classic controller. Just great. Saturn pad (Japanese) was and stiull is the best and most comfortable pad ever made for digital gaming. So good that even some Japanese arcades use them. Yakumo
This may shock and amaze you, but circular d-pads mostly all have only 4 sensors (Up, Down, Left, Right). Diagonals are detected with UP&Right, etc.... I myself like the Dual Shock design, though I would like more resistance on the thumb sticks. After a while you get the Playstation thumb callus from the dpad and it is smooth sailing from then on. The Dual Shock is basically just the SNES controller with more buttons and the SNES controller was the best ever. Everyone goes on about the Saturn pad, but 6 face buttons is uncomfortable for me unless you're the type of person that plays palm down (freaks). 4 face buttons, then shoulders is the best way IMO as it makes the buttons more quickly accessible.
I know, but you know what I meant...the lack of that space in between the directions makes it uncomfortable to use. Nintendo D-pads don't have that either, but at least they're in a cross shape which makes them much more comfortable than using 4 separate directions. Plus, the PS D-pad doesn't "flex" like the Saturn one (for example) does, which makes it hurt your thumb too. And I have no idea what you mean by palm down...
well with this attachment you can connect existing PS2/saturn-styled controllers in. hmmm.. I said it many times before. My gripe with the Dual Shock is how you're supposed to use both your index and middle finger on their respective shoulder buttons to get a comfortable grip. This makes the position of the thumbsticks more comfortable indeed but it feels like you're grabbing on to something instead of feeling on-top. I like the 360's controller (not the d-pad mind you) because of its noticeable precision when using the thumbsticks and well the triggers are hands down better.
Really? I never play that way. I always just move my index finger up or down depending on the shoulder button / trigger I need to use.
