What aspects should I test to confirm that a PS2 Tool is working correctly? What features should I be looking for on a PS2 Tool?
There's always a risk.. unfortunately. :/ If the TOOL can boot up (the PC side should boot up and show the Linux login screen, while the PS2 side should show the PS2 IP address info), it should be working fine. What are you looking for? There are a few major versions of the regular black TOOL: DTL-T10000 and DTL-T10000H, as well as the original Pentium 233 and the Celeron 566 varients. The difference between the H and non-H models is not very clear, but it is known that the H model was supposed to have been "upgraded" to support the PCMCIA DTL/SCPH-20400 HDD unit, despite the non-H model already having a PCMCIA slot. Some TOOL units will have the DTL-T14000 emulator board, which means that your unit might have some games on it and it can run games off its 3rd internal HDD unit.
I'm preparing to sell some PS2 Tools and would be interested to find out what people are looking for as well. The things I'm testing and making note of. - Does the system Boot to the information screen? - Does the DVD Drive play games? - Which SBC is installed (Pentium 233 or Celeron 566) - Condition of PCMCIA slot (I have a few of these where the switch seems to be broken) - Condition of Controller ports (Again some how these have suffered on some units) - Does the Demo run? (Not sure if I'm going to test this though but it is a thought) Also out of the 15 units I've run into only one of them has had a T14K. Which would significantly change the price in my book.
