See this post: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=294058&postcount=771 The TOOL had a DVD-R in it :icon_bigg Any ideas on how I can see if it's anything good? Stone
The 'strings' output on the main ELF seems to show it's some kind of tool for checking memory card functionality. There's tons of this stuff, I'll give it a whirl when I have enough cables to actually do anything with the unit. So nothing particularly special. Nice bonus, though Stone
It's the QA Tool disc, it's used to check if the savegames are compliant to the TRC, you can also test a pad and transfer saves from and to pc by network. Test it and let us know the version... A few screenshots from an old version:
That makes sense, when I got it the TOOL had a memory card in it with PES PREM LEAGUE DON'T LOSE written on it, so I guess they were doing all the TRC for Pro Evo Soccer on it Stone
I made the TOOL boot it  I'm very glad I didn't have to work it all out on my own, so much config to get right... It's 'QATool Version 3.0.4, Built on Feb 17 2006 at 11:43:48' Unlike the screenies above it just has the three main menu options: TRC Check Operations Memory card(PS2) Operations Network Interconnectivity Operations The TRC tools include an icon viewer and directory listing of the card, which is pretty cool. Is this version in the wild or shall I knock a quick .iso together? ;-) Stone
The only version in the wild is the one I used for the screenshots I think... Try pressing "select" at the main menu.
I was being stupid again, it actually tells you to do that  Blame the excitement of getting it working... Here's a couple of quick happy-snaps. Looks a bit more polished than your copy, anyway! I've .iso'd and zipped it (3MB download, extracts to a 1.15GB iso for DVD-R burning, hah) for release, but I'll get Kev's approval first. Sound good? :icon_bigg Stone
I've got the go-ahead, so here it is. http://www.hotcancer.com/QATOOL304iso.zip Grab it while it's hot ;-) Stone
Quick question, Would it be possible to make a video of this publicly? I run a modding website and I'm interested in showing off a cool tool like this. Also is this a private release only for this section or is it being made public? Also is this made by sony or is this a homebrew app? PS: How in the WORLD did you get a 1.15Gig ISO zipped into a 3MB download? -lllsondowlll
Anything in this section of the board is a private release to board members that have access to this section unless the original poster decides to release it anywhere else.
lllsondowlll, the older version (1.2) I used for the screenshots is easy to find "anywhere else", and it has the same functions, and maybe some that were removed in later versions... The dvd is empty, except for the 3MB of data of course!
Thats what assembler and I got to talking about, we found out the disk was about 99% Zero Padding. My guess is it could just as easily run off the elf and font folders. May I ask why this is rare? Is it homebrew or is it a utility actually made by sony?
I'd like this to stay in 0th bit because the PS2 is still semi-current gen hardware, and Sony are keen to stop their tools escaping (pun intended). It's pretty useless unless you have a TOOL or TEST kit but I'd still rather they didn't try and hunt me down for it. Like unclejun says, most of the data is just padding to create a 'correct size' image. Compression is really good on repeated values Stone
Mate, I wouldnt be too concerned, that version has been out and about for quite awhile. I received a copy early 2007 I think. I dont know how widely it has been spread around but there would be alot of people who already have it. Matt
