Anyone know anything about this? Is it just a standard network adapter? I may need to tear it apart, but I was hoping someone here could save me the trouble.

Wow! That is completely new to me. My PS2 Tool has an Ethernet port built into the PCI card. If you add an external HDD the line connection also has a network connection on that too.

So, is it actually also a modem then as I am trying to read the tiny writing on the screen and it mention Conexant chip? It mentions Ethernet port, modem connection and connection to external SCSI drive.

Is there a sticker with the model number on it, scph or dtl?
The notice is about a pc card adaptor, but the adaptor here clearly isn't pc card.
Was there a pc card network/modem released, I mean on sale?
Could it have been for the T15k, wich has an expansion bay like the fat ps2?

I thought this was strange too, however the back of it has pictures that mirror the device. Sticker on the bottom is labeled as follows:

    NETWORK ADAPTER
    CEX-10281
    Made in Japan

This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be ....etc..etc...

The sticker is all white with black text. Very different from the retail version. Also, the metal shielding on this is slighly different than the retail version.

Lastly, this one weighs slightly less than the retail one.

The only thing I could think of was the CEX is a trademark of CE Labs - perhaps they were thinking of doing something broadband/multimedia related with PS2's for the cable companies? (wild stab in the dark)

Is a pic of the other side possible?

You bet, here's a pic of the other side. Do you think Ebay would pull this? I'm considering just listing it...

Did you mean the back of the sheet of paper? If so, any chance of pics of that?

The dimensions on the paper don't really match either the usual PC-card, or expansion bay types. The width 54mm is exactly that of a PC-card, but the other dimensions don't really match either.

Right now, I'm guessing it's a prototype & that the paper is for something different, which is why I'm real curious what pictures are on the back...

Is it just me or is that an IDE connector on the back of the unit?

Whoops, sorry, thought you wanted to see the adapter. :katamari: Here is the to part of the back instructions with the pics. There are some differences, but similarities as well. Not sure what to think on this....

Yep, thats definately a pc-card adaptor, albeit different from any that I've seen, as the front is raised to accomodate the extra modem connector.

The notice is definetely for another adapter(one for the t10k) than the one you have wich is either for a Test with expansion bay or for the t15k I suppose(if someone with a t15k could confirm...)

Has anyone actually physically come across an adaptor like the one described in the notice? The DTL-H10030 HDD kit for the TOOL comes with an adaptor that appears more or less identical to the retail pc-card one (ie: no modem), so I did wonder how they went about testing code that accessed the modem that became available later.

From a programming perspective would the pc-card network/modem adaptor look the same as the later ones that use the proprietory connector of the 30000-upward series PS2s?

I reckon this network adapter is a very early pre-production version (maybe sent out to companies developing online titles back when the PS2 had only just been released). I think it's neat.

Does it work on a regular PS2?
