I would like to access the PS2 TOOL via telnet. Actually I can successfully connect to the TOOL and it prompts for username and passwort. Unfortunately I cannot login with the root account nor the Administrator account. Do I need a special account or rights to login via Telnet?
By default telnet was not enabled on mine, not did I activate it, instead I installed SSH.. if you need help installing SSH check this thread: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14827 But if you want to keep using telnet and access it with the root account try the following: Edit the file /etc/securetty and add the following to the end of the file: pts/0 pts/1
Hi, I changed the file and I did a reboot, unfortunately without success. When I login via Telnet the TOOL alerts 'Login incorrect'. Do I have to change something in the Telnet Application? I'm not very experienced with Linux, so I won't try to install SSH. Anyway thank you very much for your help.
Hmm telnet has been ages, don't remember much of it.. try and check the settings in this file: /etc/xinetd.d/telnet maybe it helps Otherwise just try and install shh and if you run in to problems we can help out here. BTW what redhat version is your TOOL running?
it's running on: Red Hat Linux release 5.2 (Apollo) Kernel 2.0.36 on an i586 btw, the folder or file /xinetd.d/telnet does not exist
Max just posted me images of the Tool and it looks intially to me as if the trip to Germany was not a happy one despite lots of packaging and attention to issues prior to delivery. The multi out image is actually black & white lines, broken up. Max also ran a log check on the unit and it came back with a list of errors as long as your arm. To me it appears that the PS2 side is either not responding or something has become disconnected internally. Therefore my fully functioning first unit, is now giving cause for serious concern in Germany. Time to rally round and help a fellow PS2 Tool owner, to which I say in public, on the AG forum that I'll do everything I can apart from fly to Germany and repair the sod myself! I'd not want Max or anyone to purchase anything or trade with me and think they'd be left in the dark. I truly hope this is something simple.
Sad to hear it got knocked up during shipping, any chance you can claim insurance for damaged post? btw the video out problem, any chance its because the dipswitch is set to ntsc instead of pal and your tv doesnt support it? probably a long shot as it sounds bad but who knows.. goodluck to both of you.
Sadly, as shipping was so expensive it was sent as a standard parcel. It would only grant £150 maximum in refund, however I will see whether Max wants this to occur. I have opened another thread relating to this machine and with any luck we can get it going again. I just hope it is a loose connection.
Hi, It's PAL. I switched to NTSC but without success. btw, my TV is a multi-norm unit. It can display NTSC and PAL signals in color even when I use only a composite cable.
if you access your TOOL only from internal network ( as you should ) basically there should not be any need to have SSH , which is more secure but slower as well.
That's true, but for now telnet doesnt seem to be working properly and it isnt installed in the usual way as it should on linux redhat hence non existing files/dirs and whatnot. I also don't have telnetd installed on my TOOL.. by default it was not installed so I can't reproduce his problem to figure out what is going on or know were the config files are located. If you have telnetd installed on yours maybe you could check where and how it is configured on a TOOL but if not maybe it's just easier to install ssh to be able to log in remotely as this seems not to be working for him at the moment.
Yeah I saw that, that's messed up! But the PS2 part being broken of having problems shouldnt effect telnetd..
agreed about the telnet - I am not using it in my env but if I will get news here - I will keep updated. BTW - you did a good job to explain ssh installation ;-)
I started with the small problems today. I still cannot login via Telnet, but I found a very hidden RS232 port. It was behind a smalll metal plate on the PCI card. I removed the metal plate and now I can connect via HyperTerminal to the TOOL. So I can finally use my computer and the TOOL at the same time. That's a good start so solve the other problems. btw, if someone is interested in the configuration: 9600 baud 8 bits no parity 1 stoppbit hardware
