I may get shot but I am sure there is virtually no difference as they play everything except for DVD`s

    another question.
is there any difference in terms of YUV/Component display between NTSC and PAL units? Thta's because I need the component @ 60Hz, not 50Hz...

well in 'some' post here on the boards (forgot the location) I read about that PsOne title's (even NTSC once's) are being output in 50Hz on a PAL PS2 Test unit :smt022

There isn't a great deal of difference between the two units the only one I can see is that Playstation titles will run in 50Hz on a UK machine regardless of region and 60Hz on NTSC machines regardless of region. :angry

However PS2 titles work at the correct speed of the region, 50Hz titles that have a 60Hz option will work at 60Hz if you select it.

When Konami UK were demostrating Dance Dance Revolution to some Journalists (to see if a UK release of DDR would work in Europe) they used a Japanese PS1 disc in a debug PAL PS2 and were wondering why the game was out of sync... :smt043

Thats awesome for me, my TV isn't PAL compatible, it'd mean no more PAL boot disc ;)

I have a question of my own, but I didn't want to take up a thread just for one question. Does anyone here know if the TEST unit is manufactured any better than the standard units (does the DVD drive fuck up after awhile?)? I'd like to keep mine working and if that means not playing games on it, so be it.

I got a very strange DTL-H30001 NTSC/UC "TEST" debugger, which has an european power supply :)

I really didn't know about that PS1-speed flaw, when I got the unit and was angry, that my collection of copied PS1-titles did not display on my PAL TV... then I read it here at AssemblerGames in some other thread.

    See this pic:

    Maybe DTL-H30001 E means "Europe"

The DTL-H30001/DTL-H30002 "TEST" debuggers are similar to a SCPH-30004 V3 unit, I think (i never opened mine, but from outside and expansion bay cover).

V3s had poor lasers, but thats not a real problem, as you can buy a new laser on Ebay. If you have got the money for a debugger, you can also easily afford 50 EUR for a new laser, I think.

I usually don't use my DTL-H30001, I just played once Metal Gear Solid on it, since I borrowed the game, made a master-copy of it because two of my chipped PS2s are damaged during chip-installation.

A debugger isn't useful anyway for playing copied games on it, because you need to patch them. If you want to play on it, better get yourself a chipped retail PS2.

As soon as my retail PS2s are repaired, I will put the debugger away for collection.

I have bought a PS1 debugger with damaged laser, but I don't care about it, since I will buy anyway 5 pieces of new lasers (PSone type, just have to swap the cover and use an extension).

I was actually going to use it for imports, since I haven't ever installed a mod chip myself (and don't plan on buying a very expensive pre-modded PS2). I knew it didn't play "backups" right off hand. I don't have a DVD burner, and have no interest in copied games anyway.

tested last night with US/JP/PAL titles and they all run without any problem and lading seems to be speedy as well... also tested with JPN Omega Boost and it seems to run fine as well... haven't had time to test it with PAL PS titles though...

mind you although I live in PAL country most of my HT setup is geared for NTSC...

KillZone PAL on PS2Test PAL w/ FMV issue T_T

this is for those of you with PAL KillZone.
Do you get the FMV struggle - i.e. it's like watching badly mastered DVD as every two second the screen faused with audio freeze and it goes on and on?

The only other PAL title I have is EvilTwin and it has no problem at all...
wondering whether my copy of KillZone is defective or it's something to do with PS2Test PAL??? :smt022

    TIA

That sounds like it's playing it at the incorrect speed. I have that problem with 2D animations on Japanese DC WinCE games, which will only play at 50Hz on a PAL DC.
