Is there any way to change which games your PS3 is backwards compatible with? I have an 80GB PS3 and it will play most PS1 games fine, but as i have a large library of PS2 games too i would like to be able to play them on the same machine and put my PS2 into retirement. I've been told it's not possible but maybe one of you guys knows otherwise? Fingers crossed!
No, you can't. 80GB models released from 2008 onwards have no PS2 compatibility. And there is no workaround. Keep your PS2. Edit: Didn't refresh and missed the previous post. Check the list on wikipedia for compatibility: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstation_3#Retail_configurations
Cheers for the replies. I'm not gonna bother buying another PS3 to play PS2 games on, seems kinda pointless when i already have a stack of PS2's. Ah well, looks like i'll have to keep the stack of consoles under my telly :110:
For future reference, the difference isn't just in software (or else they'd likely have got better, not worse) - to put it simply, early models had full PS2 hardware in them, later models only have about half with the rest being emulated. So no, there's no magical patch
20gb and 60 gb models has BC some 80 gb models has BC too, limited MGS4 and motorstorm US versions. The rest hasn't BC.
