Hi guys I've been having this problem for some time now. The kit runs REBUG 4.8.1 DECR Normal boot log: Spoiler: Boot log Cell OS SDK4.8.1 001 (release build: r50650 20161026_133844) Copyright 2016 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. revision: 50622 date: Wed Oct 26 13:38:44 JST 2016 storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id ffffffffffffffff storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id 0 storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id 1 SYSTEM_BOOT SDK v4.8.1 CP v1.3.1 lv2(0): total memory size: 502MB lv2(0): kern memory size: 18MB (heap:4160KB page pool:9216KB) lv2(0): user memory size: 468MB lv2(2): lv2(2): Cell OS Lv-2 32 bit version 4.8.1 lv2(2): Copyright 2011 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. lv2(2): All Rights Reserved. lv2(2): lv2(2): revision: 50650 lv2(2): build date: 2016/10/26 13:50:08 lv2(2): processor: Broadband Engine Ver 0x0000 Rev 0x0201 lv2(2): PPU:0, Thread:0 is enabled. lv2(2): PPU:0, Thread:1 is enabled. lv2(2): lv2(2): mounting HOSTFS in default mount point "/app_home" : OK lv2(2): mounting HOSTFS in default mount point "/host_root" : OK rsx: b02 500/650 vpe:ff shd:3f [G2A874100:1:2:d:8:2:3:9:1][16:3:0:0:1:2:1][0:0:0] lv2(2): Available physical SPUs: 6/7 lv2(2): mounting the flash file system : OK lv2(2): creating the initial system process : OK lv2(2): CP is available. lv2(2): system software: system software mode (memsize=392MB) lv2(2): creating the system software process : OK lv2(2): sys_init: system software process set-up done. lv2(2): creating the debug agent : OK lv2(2): initial system process done. checking hard disk: ....................................storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id 2 .storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id 3 storage: ACL check will be skipped for device id 4 lv2(2): BDemulator: enabled without speed emulation .done. This happens while playing PS3 games for 10-20mins (I've ran GT4 for hours and nothing happened), both on BDEMU and original game discs. Temp looks fine from WEBMAN, reporting around 50°C for both CPU and RSX when games hang. The TM console usually reports "lv2(2): System Warning : busy loop detected" several times before hanging. Then on subsequent reboots the problem is still present, and sometimes XMB crashes disastrously with graphical glitches (repeated coloured patterns, distorted XMB elements, random pixels around text) and I get a segfault. TM gives me a vsh.self coredump http://lpcc.ns0.it/S:/misc/decrdmp.txt Any idea what's going on? Thanks in advance~
Your RSX is dying and the only reason that I know this is because you mentioned "and sometimes XMB crashes disastrously with graphical glitches (repeated coloured patterns, distorted XMB elements, random pixels around text)" My best suggestion is look into reballing/reflowing or hope that someone can guide you into replacing this aspect of the system.
You are always able to get a second opinion. I just know DECR1000A systems have unpredictable RSX failures. 1400A models lack this issue more but have died in the past as well.
Can the RSX be replaced from another console or is the RSX bound to the console? Yeah ... that happened to my CECH2004A too ... the RSX is dying when you get this symptoms. After some days with this issues my console doesn't boot anymore.
As soon as I got mine, I cleaned the insides throughly to get more airflow. Then I replaced the old, cracked thermal compound with a layer of Arctic MX4. Bumped up fan speed to keep it around 49°C. For mine, disaster seems to strike when RSX gets to 49-51°C It's hard to keep it lower. I've been able to keep the system alive by doing that, but it's completely unreliable.
I swear, even if you were to hypothetically watercool it, you wouldn't get much better temps. On a serious note, since it is temperature related, I'd also recommend a reball
