06/09/2006 06:40 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3 Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Announces New March 2007 date for European Launch of PLAYSTATION 3 No change in launch date for Japan and North America London, Wednesday 6 September 2006 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that it would revise the launch date of its PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system in the PAL territories of Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia from 17th November 2006, as previously announced to March 2007. Launch dates for Japan and North America will remain the same, which are November 11th and November 17th respectively. The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PLAYSTATION 3. The previously announced PLAYSTATION 3 shipment forecast of 6 million units globally within the fiscal year ending 2007 is not changed. http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Content/Detail.asp?<br />ReleaseID=4268&NewsAreaID=2
Interresting that they say the number of shipped units will not changed. Europe is seen as non-important as usual then i suppose. On a side-note; anyone know a good place to preorder on in the US or Japan (that will ship to europe).
"Australasia" - First time I've seen that word. Oh, and I can't believe Sony is going to have a delay....
At least. Specially the first couple of weeks. Yakumo try stock up on 3-4 of these stick them on ebay.co.uk and watch the money roll in.
Perhaps we should start a little business going here Yakumo, Japan-Games and others in Japan, start to get them and we can post here and split any profits. Could even be worth someone going and collecting a load to avoid postage and possible customs. Balls Just checking for flights to Tokyo for these dates and just realised that my wife is off to Las Vegas that week-end for her brothers marriage OH:
EMS will go up to 2 million yen !! That's about 12 thousand pounds so you are safe with EMS. I already have 5 on order at different stores (1 order per store ) My price ? 1000 pounds shipped with insurance. Yakumo
I wish gamestop/eb would take preorders, because that's all I have in my area. But I am planning on ordering atleast 3, maybe even 5, and selling them on ebay. I think it would be best to put them on auction a little after launch when the hype is highest and people are willing to pay anything for a chirstmas gift. And if that doesn't work, I could always try selling my PS3 box.
I can understand why Sony may need to do this from a production point of view, but delaying the PlayStation 3 in Europe until March 2007 will either prove to be suicidal or one piece of good luck the console hasn't really enjoyed yet. Then again, the original PS and its successor weren't first in their respective generations so perhaps it may prove beneficial after all? By then, either Microsoft and Nintendo will have exhausted their markets or run away with the lead. We shall see, though personally this news isn't going to change my decision to go for a Wii (sorry for the pun, but it's hard not to come up with one when you're referring to Nintendo's latest - did they predict this element of its hype when coming up with that name?). However, like most people I'll more than likely end up with a PS3 somewhere down the line regardless of what my first choice is... only this time I'll need to get a decent enough HD set first! Maybe the Wii really is nothing more than a stop-gap until I can afford a decent TV capable of delivering only the best eye candy? On the other hand, if ATI's claim of further power yet to be seen from Wii games proves to be correct then perhaps I could stick with the system for a while yet? I'm convinced that we still haven't seen the very best of what is capable on SDTV, and since this is now exclusively Nintendo's territory I hope they can deliver great results.
gamestop/eb would no take preorders that is good because last year I remember one guy I have 6 x-box 360 to sale out side the stored he sale for $1000
nintendo have a GREAT chance of swallowing the euro market, that by the way is considered unimportant but produces almost the same wealth (or already more?) as the NA one... i don't see any good for the 360, since those who wanted one (and in europe aren't so many) already got one, and without great price drops from MS i guess that Wii thanks to sony can at least place a great user base in the old continent.... we'll see
Karsten makes a good point The Japanese market is shrinking, the US is stagnant, but europe is actually growing-and nearing the size of the US market
Well the Wii is going to be dirt cheap, but it doesn't really play in the same league as the ps3... the ps3 is going to be a fucking monster specwise (for a game console) and waiting till march will suck since I'm not interested in paying 1000gbp for one I would say that a lot of people (me included) will get a Wii while waiting for ps3. Can't se why everyone is bitching about the 600euro for ps3 though. That's great value for your money Oh well... at least some good games will be out in march I guess.
You know what pisses me off is that European software houses make the best games outside of Japan, yet Sony still treat us like shit ! Do you thing Sony would have gotten anywhere as big as fast as they did without UK Developers such as Psygnosis, Bizarre Creations and so on? They made all their million seller games that weren't by Namco  hahahaha, just thought about that. What would the world have been like if Namco and Psygnosis worked for Sega instead? No big names for Sony's PlayStation put it that way. no, Air Combat, No Ridge Racer, No Teken, No Wipeout, No Destruction Derby, No family Tennis, No Kalona (or what ever it was called) and all those other countless games that sold by the bucket load (even if most of the Psygnosis ones were shit. Krazy Ivan, Assault Riggs, Noverstorm, Addidas Power Soccer, anyone?) Yakumo
i agree, i agree... just missing out konami, polyphony and square-enix for having the winning team....
And well, Konami also put stuff out for the Saturn in the beginning, like Vandal Hearts or Suikoden, that were PSX launch games or almost so. All that leaves us is Square Enix... which was the best software house in '95, and maybe until 2k, but is an absolute, utter, insufferable excuse for shite now.
