I don't know if any of our developer friends can confirm, but price PER unit is 60K USD per.

At that price, I assume it is a full blown server device and that we'll see a lot of PS3 "TEST PS3" systems around. PStool was expensive, but the small jump in price from tool to ps3 dev seems a pleasant suprise.

    Thoughts?

    damn.. that's a lot of cash o_O;;
I guess our total budget will go on just the devkit then (if we ever get a publisher  ) ;D

    whoa.. 60K ..
    I expect to arrive a 100square feet ready-to use mini-bureau in a sea-container
With all machines, screen, etc. - all wired, a desk and a really comfy PS3 chair.

Isnt this price a problem for small studios?

wow, that's a pretty penny. I wonder how dev systems for other systems compared to this one price-wise.

It has to be the full blown kit that comes with all neccessary hardware.

Remember the PSTOOL itself was $20k, and still is if you want it legitimately. The PS3"Tool" variant is quite expensive too. Just as there were PS2TEST units, there are also PS3 Test units.

$60K has to be for the whole kit and kabootle. I'll double check this.

Well if it's the proto kit, you get a grey metal box that looks like a pc with the case removed and a lot of flashing lights.

PS1 performance analysers started off at £125,000 each, but were later reduced to £17,000.

That's not really that much if you're seriously making PS3 games. Hell, if I was going to be making some, I'd pony up the money. ^_^

shite...if the costs are that high, than alot of devs will just buy a g5 dual core and get the ms sdk.......i would

    5000 for a dual core g5 w/o sdk versus 60 000 for ps3 tool ...i dont think so

Least we know how Sony plans to recoup the money they lose on retail systems. :)

  15. The G5 setup is too 'old' now, final hardware is now in use, as is a final hardware SDK.

    ;-)

Very different architecture, plus you don't get docs or support. Don't forget, you're not just paying for the hardware.

Yeh you get support that actuall does their job right. Any questions you have, they'll help you in answering it, etc.

60k isn't that much. There are all sorts of ways to get that down a lot -- write a whole bunch of shit off, play ring around the rosy with your taxes, etc.
