PS3 Fan Powered by External PSU

Does any one knows how to power the ps3 fan using the ATX powr supply?
I it only spins less than a second then it stops when connected with the 12V psu.

Is this accurate?
Brown wire: 12V
Black wire: Ground
Gray wire: Fan speed?

I dont understand why it doesnt work.
