so i've had this ps3 for awhile now, never used it much until i installed CFW so i can set the fan control and not worry about overheating my nice backward compatible ps3

as the title says, there's no HDMI output at all and i've tried on different TVs with different cables. component works fine but randomly it will reset the audio\video. there's no pattern of when this happens as far as i can tell, and its not often, its just aannoying when it does happen for two seconds

fixing the HDMI would be great, if this is a common problem and anyone knows of a (somewhat)common solution it would be great. maybe there's some CFW tools to help debug this?

would a cheap component cable be causing the random video reset?

    thanks a lot guys

If the capacitive touch buttons on the system are dirty/dusty it can trick the system into thinking you are holding down the button when you turn it on, thus resetting the audio/video settings. Super annoying, but this happened a lot on my fat PS3 back in the day.

As for the HDMI, could be a broken connector, in which case you would need to solder a new one in.

you might want to check if there are any bent pins in the consoles HDMI port , PS4 is notorious for this

Not sure I understand. What does that have to do with resetting the audio/video?

If you keep the power button held down on the system it will reset the output resolution, that’s what can happen if the button is dirty. Stupid design :/

But if the button was dirty and being held down, it would switch it out of component mode, so it's probably not the button.

you may be able to bend the pins back into alignment , if that was unsuccessful a replacement HDMI would be needed (check video below). Also there's videos on Youtube regarding your HDMI issues, for example PS3 HDMI black screen fix and PS3 HDMI no signal fix.

I was not aware of this. I thought component worked at all time. But I’ve never used it :)

i'm pretty sure video reset returns to 480p so it can't be the button

i checked the pins and there was no obvious bending, but there is a fair amount of dirt in and around the port. i doubt cleaning it will help but i'll give it a try

i don't have all that gear that dude has though, but i did see the bent pins in the video and mine doesn't look like that inside the port

yeah unfortunately its really hard to find actual fix videos because there's hundreds of videos of kids showing how to do the video reset

on component there is some diagonal screen banding, i'll try to get a picture of it, maybe it will point towards the root of the issue. its two diagonal lines, one about 20% to the left and one 40% to the left underneath the first one(for example 50% would be a line from bottom left corner to top right corner if that helps visualize). barely noticeable unless the screen is a solid color like black, but it might go hand in hand with the no HDMI and random audio\video signal reset

@Bearking i just realized you might've misunderstood what i meant by "video reset". i don't mean "video settings reset", i mean randomly during gameplay my TV will lose the audio\video signal from PS3 for about 2 seconds, then the audio\video returns like normal

Well, does the HDMI port feel loose? Like does a cable wiggle around and have a lot of play in it when plugged in? You mentioned the dirty port, maybe you are onto something there? You could also take an old toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol and gently clean the port back and forth. I would say that is something to do only if it is obviously super dirty. If you do this you also want to let it dry for a good while before you plug it in and power on. I would say accelerate drying with a blow drier for 1 min or so on medium or low setting.

When I refurbished the PS3 Phat I bought from eBay in August it was so caked with dust and idling at 83c I had no choice but to do a full tear down and bathed all the plastics in hot water and let sun dry. After I cleaned it top to bottom and cleaned dust out with air compressor, applying Arctic MX-4 Thermaal Paste it took the idle temps down to 53c, a full 30 degree drop. Luckily I didn't have to delid the RSX and Cell processors. It was such a dusty system it was horrible.

So maybe yours sat around unused for so long with no HDMI in the port to prevent dust from getting in to it that it did prevent a good clean connection. Worth a try man.
