So this guy is trying to get actual hardware acceleration working from OtherOS in Linux on PS3, and people are speculating this could mean it could also be enabled in GameOS for homebrew and even a proper N64 emulator, or perhaps better PSX emulation with hardware rendering. He has posted a video just recently discussing his plans for it, and even compiled a new build of Linux just last night. René did uploaded a ISO with current kernel 4.19 for more experienced users (a easy install iso follows soon). He is using a 64-bit kernel with a 32-bit userland now to save ram. (Retail units have just 256MB sys. ram). People with a DECR will benefit even more, (they have 512MB sys. ram), while TEST units only have 256MB sys. ram AFAIK. A fast N64 emulator or PS1 emulator needs more work tho. We need a powerpc compatible dynarec, well pcsxr has it for ppc but their targets are Apple/IBM G4 and G5 CPUs. Maybe it needs a port to work with the PS3 Cell CPU?!. Creating a dynarec from snatch is not a easy task at all, currently retroarch is looking for someone who can enable it in Beetle PSX for x86(x64) and ARM(ARM64). They offer 895$ via bountysource to a coder who can get it done
Not64 and WiiSX provide PPC dynarecs for their respective systems on the Wii. I'm curious on how easy it is to port that... The RAM problem could be reduced by using SSDs as swap.
Oh yes, I forgot that, thanks for the reminder Fun part is GC builds have that dynarec too. I play PS1 on my cube from time to time and its working well for some games
