The ps3 is my media center.

nevertheless, with the coming some new updates more and more files are deemed unplayable despite being fully playable before - nevermind the stupid issues it faced when the same file would run from one medium and not another, or if two identically processed files got a different playback treatment.

Their video watching codecs/appilications are a mess, so what gives?

I refuse to hook my ps3 up to any kind of internet connection just so I never get any "software updates"

Mine plays mp4's fine, and I'm keeping it that way.

when I had my ps3 I never even tried playing anything because you had to work with it for like an hour to play any file, its a horrible media center.

I guess that Sony is thinking that supporting a wide range of mp4 based codecs would endorse piracy.

its a combination of paranoia over downgrading with an upgrade, and a lack of interest in online console games

Don't some games require the latest firmware?
