So, on my PS3 fat, the heatsink is placed right below the Blu-Ray/DVD drive. Now, if your smart in hardware, that sounds like a bad Idea right? Whats happening to the heat when it touches the Blu-Ray drive? Why doesn't my fan work? Why is it placed on the other side of the Blu-Ray drive where the power supply is? Can anyone help me and save me the trouble of selling this current PS3 and buying a new one?

Enough with the questions, though. I posted a thread about what is happening to my disks, and how I needed help figuring out whats going on. So I opened up my PS3 only to find alot of dust and alot of bad console design. First, why is the heatsink right below the disk drive? Wouldn't that damage the drive and the disk in it? Next, my fan hardly even moves. The console is always hot unless my desk fan is next to it. Oh, and the placement of that fan, is it really a smart idea to stick it so far away from the heatsink? The power supply doesn't need to be cooled, its in a big box! I need help.

I would replace the fan with a talismoon 21 wing fan

they are so much better at extraction than the stock ones

Just get a Super Slim. I know it sucks to not have a backwards compatible PS3 but I've already gone through three of them and just gave up in the end. The Phat models are all time bombs and it took me long to accept that.
