    Hello,

Check this article, apparently to secure a PS3 at HMV in the UK you need to buy a PSP as well, a total of £670 but you get 2 PSP crap games with it so it's not so bad...

First no 20gig pack then this.

    Repeat after me... Pay Beyond!!!

So my advice go in a store look at the PS3 and then buy and Play Beyond on a 360 or a Wii.

Anyway no good games came out on PSP and not a lot will come out of PS3 that is worth spending that much cough MGS4 cough... lot of money for just the one game...

Don't tell me you're surprised. We all knew it was coming.

Not all stores are doing that. A lot are taking just a £50 deposit.

Either way, who fscking needs one at launch? I'd wait until there were some games to play on it first.

If there is one thing I learned: Never fucking trust the people at game stores when it comes to console preorders and "deals". The bastards at gamestop told people that the people who preordered a PS3 or Wii game would be the ones who would be called in first for the chance of getting a preorder.

Then it was revealed that it was a bunch of bullshit and it was a "First come, first serve" basis. Bah...Anywho, no 20 gig model? Thats a bit of a ripoff, since you can easily upgrade the hard drive and not have to pay $100 more for something you don't need. Not to mention Sony is being pricks about people in the UK importing (Hey, why make it non-region locked for games and block all trade?).

Oh no I'm not surprised it's another story in Sony vs The World. But this kind of things is not good for business...

First you are way overdue, the machine doesn't deliver anything more than PS2 (Cell, RSX, Sixaxis jokes) then you piss off your customers with off the scale pricing and no consistent retail strategy and after that not learning from mistakes and replicate them in Europe

The least thing you could do is a positive gesture toward your installed base and prospective customers and not give them the finger especially in the UK. Retailers are even worse than the taxman...

Clearly the PS3 offers more than the PS2. They are ripping off the UK and it's not only Sony that are doing it.

If you compare consoles at launch, both PS2 and PS3 had/have better graphics and an advance optical disc has their main seller, nothing more.

Network gaming is still not up to par with XBL and the Six-Axis is pretty much a poor attempt at ripping off the Wii.

I agree I may be tough on Sony but who wouldn't these days, it's one mistake after another, thankfully for them they still have good games in the pipe and big marketing budgets they just need to remember how to use them properly, improve their PR and loose the arrogance. They earned their installed base on hardwork and cleverly understand the market but now Sony is an old machine relying on past successes.

The future will tell the fate of the PS3, but despite the PS2 lacking at launch it went on to become the console to own last generation in terms of number of quality games and variety in genres. I think perhaps the XB360 might take that crown, if only Microsoft could "break" the Japanese market.

Personally, I think the markets may become more spread out. Say, for example, Sony keeps on the path it is on and keeps the price on horribly high levels (Personally, $400 should be a reasonable price, not $500 as the minimum), then it may have some issues. It also seems like Japanese publishers are starting to port games on the 360 for western audiences, which would be bad for Sony.

Not to mention the Wii is perfect for the dating sims/text adventure games that Japan seems to get quite often (Due to the low cost of producing it and text adventure games usually not using too much processing power).

Granted, I do own a PS3 and I do hope it does succeed, although it's going to be hard when most of its exclusives are going to other consoles (Final Fantasy being more spread out then the Playstation-PS2 era, losing Dragon Quest IX, losing exclusives such as Assassins Creed and GTA4, possibility of MGS4 being ported, competing with gamer points and online play on the 360 with multi console releases, etc)

I really don't think MGS4 will get ported as MGS2 did rather poorly on the Xbox. Each MGS game sells less then the last one.

The PS3 will come into it's own but not for awhile and I for one have a lot of "kicking 'em when they're down" to do to Sony prior to that

That being said losing the exclusives will hurt them in the short term although GTA and Assasins Creed were never intended to be PS3 exclusives and you know Mercs 2 is coming to the 360 as well they just haven't said anything yet. But wait till the next Grand Turismo comes out and all will be well in Sony land again.

Maybe this time the port will be better, Cell is based on Power PC so is the Xbox's CPU but then ATI and Nvidia use differents shaders...

I'm pretty sure MGS4 will get ported to 360, dev cost are very high and it's not guaranteed that Konami will make a big profit out of it not with the current installed base.

Amazon is doing the same (if you want PS3, you need to bundle with a PSP) in Germany.

bloody joke. Anyone who is willing to spend that kind of cash on a PS3 likely alrready has a PSP

I will sit on my other consoles for a bit. theres no point right now.

Didn't I read somewhere that the port of MGS2 had issues because it was basically emulating a PS2 on the Xbox ?

If that were the case I'd want my hand on that emu
