This may sound like a rather silly question, but where is the best place to reserve a Japanese PS3 (for a person living in the United States)?
Lik-Sang perhaps, or Play-Asia..i'd say wait awhile until we see what its really like..wait until the after the launch, then decide Ryan
Good question, one I will have to deal with soon enough ( unless the launch coincides with my japan holiday - in which case, launch here I come!) I always say go with your an importer you use most often or have a good relationship with for a launch. As they may not shift the prices up on the launch day, like the big cheeses always do. Saying that - if you don't care about the price being potentially hiked up at the last minute, try the old favs like lik-sang or play-asia. Those places are probably going to get the biggest allowence of consoles when the big day comes, so you will probably get one on launch, but you may have to pay more. So I say, check with your usual importer. Or if not bite the bullet and prepare to get a 20 percent increase on the final price. (better than ebay screwage)
Software wise, it will be sound...although i think Sony could trump MS when it comes to the number of hardware issues Ryan
Gamestop I'm willing to bet they do a dual launch in America and Japan or America first. All of this assuming no region codes as Sony(If I recall correctly)has stated.
I'll also mirror the other opinions - wait. I imported a Japanese PS2 at launch - within 2 weeks it *literally* started smoking while playing Tekken Tag Tournament. Dead. $600. Also imported a Japanese PSP at launch. That lasted 3 months and now won't even turn on. Dead. $650. Don't learn the hard way :/
My dad bought the PS2 on the american launch and guess what? it didnt worked... Dude, MGS4 on launch? yeah right, they said the same about MGS2...
I really hope you're joking about Gamestop. Have you not been around the last few times they've launched a system.
That's why you get the extended warrenty. Now that I think about it, it might be best to buy it in the States...
Seriously. NEVER RESERVE A SYSTEM FROM GAMESTOP. Unless you work there and can guarantee yourself one of the first ones. :110: Gamestop never gets as many as they say they will and will over-reserve to the tune of a hundred (I'm not exaggerating). At least 5 reserves go missing due to the Gamestop Idiot (every store has one; it's standard issue). And God help you if the District Manager shows up to the Gamestop you're getting yours from. That bastard will tell the retail serfs to do one thing, the managers to do another, and then yell at everyone when nobody knows what's going on. You'll never get your system then.
It may be better to chill out and wait a couple of months until the new version arrives. Dude, if Johnny tells you that buying a PS3 at launch is a bad idea, is because buying a PS3 at launch is a very fucking BAD idea...
I'm with Johnny on this one. Sony products are not precisely stellar at launch. Also, launch games might give you that PS2 feeling all over again. Plus it's going to be region coded, so you'll have to deal with getting imports... and knowing sony, any Import-Friendliness is going to be very late to come by. And, of course, you're going to pay through the nose for getting it first. I say wait and see.
Instead of starting a new PS3 thread I thought I mention it here... I'm amazed none here have said anything about this: Official Sony specs: PS3 HDD sold separately http://www.joystiq.com/2006/02/15/official-sony-specs-ps3-hdd-sold-separately/ I hope this is not true as then they would the same stupid misstake as microsoft with the xbox360 (as my personal thought is that it was a really stupid misstake.. and really just pissed of the developers)
