Got a small booklet in HMV Portsmouth today and it said that the PS3 is going to be multi region and launched in UK in March 2007. Is this TRUE? If so - awesome! I don't have to get an American one now!
Its region free the same way as the psp, which means you can play games from any region but sony wont let you buy import games by threatening retailers like the psp fiasco.
That purely was over selling Units to Europe before launch. It pretty much was cheaper to buy a USA unit online and you would get it months ealier then the European release. That is why SCEE had a bug up it's ass and targeted Play-Asia. Play-asia nor any other import site has any issue with shipping games world wide (I just got in a brand new jpn psp game in today from play-asia, i live in canada).
Sorry subbie but your wrong play asia will not ship psp games & hardware to europe thanks to sony threatening them. Its not even for their own stuff either, ALL psp stuff on play asias site cant be sold here look at any item & it lists all the countries they wont ship to. This item is not available for shipping to European Union Iceland Liechtenstein Norway
And all that goes back to the issue with SCEE and Europe launch. Ncsx (in the states), Buygame2 (in HK) & sometimes lik-sang still ship to europe. SCEA has made no issue with JPN or EUR games going to USA. http://www.i4u.com/article4004.html "Lik-Sang is actually still shipping despite the lawsuit. Both companies are located in Hong Kong, which historically has special trade regulations." http://www.i4u.com/article3988.html http://www.lik-sang.com/news.php?artc=3666
Yeah i checked out liksang & your right, i didnt notice that they will ship to the uk. Wonder why they have the guts to do it but play asia dont. Your pretty lucky to not have been affected by the meddling of sony (^_^) thank god for ebay for my psp gaming fixes.
Screw Ebay. Go BuyGame2.com!! They are located in HK and their prices are far better then play-asia or lik-sang. They also are very relyable. It just sadly takes an extra day or two to order (since they confirm each order by hand made though email or website). So usualy if I make an order on say monday (they are closed by then), They confirm my order tuesday (their time), I have the email early tuesday morning, paypal them and then it gets out on wendsday. Yet when I do a bulk order of 2-3 games the $$$ I save makes waiting a few days extra worth it. --edit-- Just little more praise. My jpn 360 I bought through them and had no issues with it nor them on getting it. Also one time a EMS package went missing and even tho it had a custom marking for $10, they pressed HK post and were able to get a $100 insurance refund which I was given back to use how I see fit (I end up buying more games). Even better was that my missing package (two copies of SFZ3 for psp) showed up a week after they got the refund (about 1 month late in total).
So if SCEE don't want us buying import games, why dont they press SCE harder to have a territorial lockout on the system?? I only have 3 PAL PS2 games, ALL my PSX and PS2 software comes from the USA and online import stores. Silly not to really, faster game play, full screen and earlier release dates. No brainer really for me! Must say, the JAP PSP is quality, plays our region UMDs and all region games! Plus I registered it with SCEE in Sept 05 when they finally did the UK release and got a free Spiderman 2 UMD 2 weeeks later - result!
You forgot the lower price depending on platform i suppose though. GBA/DS games are sometimes 50% cheaper import and even after postage etc they are a hell of a lot cheaper than the local PAL ones.
