Thats my point, it has to be the worst case scenario... Anyway, dunno you guys but I'm way more excited about the possibility of new PSPs with internal memory than the PS3 itself.
The only thing I can recall from Tekken Tag is that it was slow and that my fingers hurt after the sessions.
If anything, I think the PS3 will be along the lines of the Saturn's and N64's bastard child. Market performance will be along the lines of the saturn in japan, that is a system for the hardcore. It will sell respectably, but be overshadowed by the Wii. But in america, it will be more along the lines of the 64 having a trickle of good games and selling fewer systems to a smaller audience(like the saturn in japan) Like the 64, the PS3 has been delayed, overhyped, and the hardware has been made out to be the bee's knees(when it's not). Both are on a different formate, and I beileve Blu-ray may become a liaison if hddvd or combined format players become commonplace. Again, the PS3 is like that saturn in being a bitch to code for, or atleast different enough to make ports very difficult. And Sony has clearly become cocky, angering both consumers and developers, and is why so many people wan't to see sony fail. I also see the PSP falling off, as at this point a stream of good games isn't enough to revive it. Sony must make a concerted efort to sell the system to all consumers, and being preoccupied with the PS3 is doing them no good. Additionally, developers like EA pleging to support the DS more and cutting back on their PSP lineup does not bode well for the system. And here's my finaly prediction Japan: 1 Wii, 2 PS3, 3 360(with a following like mega cd) US: 1 360, 2 Wii, 3 PS3 Euro: 1 360, 2 PS3, 3 Wii-but all of this is just an uneducated guess
I dont think that the Wii may get ahead of the PS3: ninty isnt that big in the states nowadays (outside of the portable market) and most kids avoid the brand in hopes of not getting a wedgie for saying they actually own an NGC. I think the X360 will be head to head against the PS3, much like the Genesis and the Snes were, and at the end there will be a winner, and it that case it may be the X360...
Gone are the days of "it's hard to code for". Low level coding is now mostly unused by most developers thanks to the variety of tools available. Abstract layers offer a flexibility only made possible by the recent high-powered systems (you ll never see any layers for GBC say for example), in that sense, I wouldn't compare the Saturn's capricious coding discipline to the PS3's orchestrated architecture. Regarding the games and the clients, well the PS brand has a much larger third-party base than the Saturn, inside and outside of Japan, so this is what will ultimately sell the system , after its initial shaky establishment months. Have no illusions though, once the bird takes off, PS3 will soar the skies of gaming like its predecessors.
"PS3=N64?" Well, I can sort of see it. They are constantly boasting about the graphics, with very little games shown to launch. It may have a lot of good titles, among piles upon piles of "junk titles", but perhaps the development costs nowadays will make people more wary of making crappy games. In vice versa, this also kills the little man trying to make a generally good game, but it will never leave the ground. And if the PS4 is backwards compatible with the PS3 (or has too few good games for a long time, which was what pretty much happened to me with my N64), you can bet thousands of old PS3's will fill pawn shops across the world as are many N64's, since its usually the most sold system.
I really liked the pressure sensitive buttons. They're awesome on MGS2 and Ace Combat. Then again, other than RPGs and Shooters, thoe are _the_ PS2 games I like, so...
That's a load of junk. The DS was ahead of the PSP even before the Lite came out, and the PSP being the 2nd best selling system in Japan? Please. The PSP is a dead duck (and this coming from a supporter).
The face buttons in a DualShock2 are indeed pressure sensitive to 256 levels, and I too have experienced quite a lot of discomfort in my thumb when attempting to play certain games that utilised this feature more than others, such as Burnout 3: Takedown, Gran Turismo 4 and OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast. Actually, does anybody else notice a trend? Maybe it would be easier on the future of my digits if I quickly invested in a dedicated steering controller before any more permanent damage sets in...
An interesting figure announced today: Strategy Analytics reported that the worldwide user base of PlayStation 3 has surpassed Xbox 360 for the first time. As of end of 2010, PS3 active user base is 43.4 million units worldwide, and Xbox 360 is 42.9 million units worldwide. Wii is still on top with 75.5 million active users. (Active User means the console is actively being used) VGchartz says not yet in terms of sales (XB360 leads by 3 million), but pretty interesting how things have turned around in a couple of years. The PS3 is still $300.
I was wondering how this thread just popped outta nowhere! So you say this is based off active users? So it must count people who play the systems even with Silver membership for Xbox live... but what if you are on the PS3, are connected to the net, but havent made a PSN ID yet? I am sure it still logs it... Although, damn, I am surprised for sure. I didn't think the 360 would get passed up by the PS3, well.... ever. I mean, part of me suspected it, just look at the PS2, ive never seen a console go as long as that piece, especially since even people who I knew that never owned a game console had a PS2. Either way, I kind of regret selling my PS Triple... but... nah, 360 is good for my needs, and hell I haven't used it for months.
While interesting, couldn't you have made a new topic over that? I just chewed out a new user over resurrecting dead topics.
Well, I found it interesting to compare what was being said 4 years ago vs. reality. Since the topic and this thread has context, it is not really 'dead' - would you not agree? There was no need to start a brand new thread IMO.
I actually found the beginning discussion on siaxis controls interesting till I noticed they were from 2006! By the way, siaxis had promise if you played Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction (worth playing regardless) I think this is a case of Sony losing the early battle and winning the war in terms of installed base.
Lets be honest for a minute here: who could've predicted that a repackaged gamecube would sell that much? Really, the DC was panned by most gamers on the retarded premise that "PS2 will be more powerful, hurr!". Until lastgen it was all about raw power and specs, so a console like the Wii back then would've been mocked to death. The way things reversed is like if next year everyone decided they hate Apple and want WebOS tablets instead. Want to bet the farm on that? are you high?
Excuses excuses. Aren't we about due for that collapse of the gaming industry you used to go on about? Happening within a few years, wasn't it? Not sure how seriously I can take your predictions, really.
