I Have a PS3 test, That I had Reflowed Professionally, It works Great But when you go to play a game the fans kick on so high that the unit starts to overheat but when you press the pause button for a few seconds and don't move anything on the screen it quits for a few seconds and then you can play the game for a few more minutes before you have to do that again... So I Guess the question here, is will a reball fix this issue, or is there something else that is not working correctly... Thanks Bob
Just like you were told in the other thread where you asked this, you need a reball or a reflow. http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27357 If this is the same unit, then whoever did your reflow didn't do a very good job. Was this done on an actual reflow machine or by some guy with a heat gun? -hl718
For chips with huge heat spreaders (like the RSX) some people put solvents on them so the epoxy which holds the heat spreader is removed. From that point, the worker removes the original thermal grease that existed under the heat spreader and cleans the top of the chip, preparing for removal. Then it's removed from the board. Next step is reball and ressolder. Lastly the heat spreader is returned to the chip, but if the worker fails to put the proper thermal grease, the thing will overheat (and fail again, eventually). Take it back to whomever fixed it and demand a fix.
