..And its big €499-€599, so probably in the US $499-$599... http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060405-6526.html
bloody hell ! That is far too expensive !! How much was the PS2 whenthat came out and the 360? Yakumo
360 was €299/€399, PS2 was before euros (I think) but was according to this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/1037939.stm Seems to me that A blu-ray player that will offer no advantage to a majority of users is a very bad idea if it means it costs that much...
It's been retracted, and is a slip on the MFG cost per unit. It's stated to be a $100loss per machine. $399 retail $101 loss = $500
Yeah, Euros are worth more than dollars. Shouldnt the price be cheaper in Europe?!!? They will be making huge pofit when converted to yen
Probably. I'm not missing out this time. I'll buy & sell one....blam...I'll have enough for at least one for myself and some games.
I'm thinking the price given is with taxes included allready? I remeber in Portugal and Spain all the taxes are included on the price. I dont know about other European countries. But still Euro 1.00€ = 143.896 Japanese Yen and..... 499.00 EUR = 71,832.67 JPY 599.00 EUR = 86,234.10 JPY "Live mid-market rates as of 2006.04.06 18:25:02 UTC" wtf?
Well, I guess there won't be any shortages like there were with the Xbox 360. Instead, we will have a hell of a lot more robberies when people walk out of stores with them... :rambo:
I could build a decent pc for that kind of money and it would have all of the same features. Minus of course blu-ray and playing ps3 titles, but plus the ability to play pc games. No console is worth that kind of money, just think of what kind of rarities you could put that much money towards instead. -ServiceGames-
That's called playing the markets. They take a loss when they sell in places where the currencies are down.
Am I missing something here? The Sony Blu-ray BDP-S1....$999 Samsung BDP-1000....$999 Panasonic DMP-BD10...."somewhere under $1500" ..and the PS3.....$599? So the PS3 will be the cheapest blue-ray system on the market with a video game system thrown in to boot? I dunno, I think the blue-ray will be a burden. It seems like Sony is in no-man's land. People who pay for a HD set-up probably aren’t going to be interested in driving it all through a PS3, so the blu-ray will be a waste of money for them. The others, me included, plus teenagers-20-30-somethings in Japan probably don’t have a HD set up so again the blu-ray is a waste of money for us since we can only use it to watch regular DVDs. So, who is Sony selling to? There’s so much more required to get the blu-ray benefit, and Sony is forcing consumers to buy it even if they can’t use it, aren’t interested in it, or can’t afford it. Keep the blu-ray out, lower the price, and I’ll buy it. The DVD on the PS2 was brilliant. The technology was inexpensive at that point so it introduced DVD players into homes that didn’t have it before at a great price. No extra hardware needed and I’m betting people did buy the PS2 because they could start watching DVDs. There was no major conversion or hardware upgrade required, just a rental card from a video store. Isn’t this what happened with the PSX? A much better quality Sony DVD recorder with more functions was slightly more expensive so people just opted for that instead? They didn’t want a lower quality model just to have the PS2 attached since they weren’t saving all that much. I remember someone saying that Sony was its own worst competition on this model. If I’m missing something, please fill me in. I often go on rants before someone taps me on the shoulder. I’m an American.
PlayStation 2 was 500 euro when it hit Europe, and due to shortages many payed even more (600 - 750 euro). Seriously, if there's one company that can get away with such a price, it's Sony and PlayStation.
