Now that the European version is out, when it comes to games, the region-free factor is confirmed (at least for the moment). Living permanently in Greece is a bizarre thing to do, a fine example of this is the price of the PS3 here: 660 € (=$880 USD)... 60 € more expensive than the rest of the EU. I'm negotiating about a fair deal for a Japanese PS3 ($820 with insured shipping) but first I'll have to make sure that: 1) There are no internet restrictions related to region and if yes that I don't have to stick with Japanese text. 2) The voltage is 110/220v variable. 3) All Japanese versions contain real PS2 hardware. 4) It can play American blu-ray movies. If I get 4 affirmative answers, wish me good luck with the deal.
1) No restrictions AFAIK. 2) Yes, it's got variable voltage. 3) First edition models do, however at some point they'll remove it. Also, will only play NTSC-J PSX and PS2 discs (it's region locked to whatever country you bought it from). 4) Will play American Blu-ray movies, but not European ones (region locked again).
x2 if you got a pal ps2 to play your old games or wait for the hk dudes to come to the rescue some time in the near future, if possible =_= ps3=440 souvlakia for 1.5e each
