This question is aimed at the technically inclined members mainly. As you might know, the PlayStation 3 offers (as of some firmware update) the ability to boot the console remotely via Remote Start in tandem with Remote Play. However, the PS3 fan runs subtly while the console is in standby mode in order to support this "wake-on LANish" feature. My question is whether there is any foreseeable harm: a)to the console (mechanically/thermally), b) to the game disk, c) to the PS3's LAN circuitry specifically or; d) to the PS3's cooling/fan system (wear and tear) in having the console in standby with Remote Start enabled. I am not much concerned with security issues stemming from the internet or local area connection.
24watts for a 60GB, I guess it's about the same on all models but I cannot be sure. 1W for normal standby mode.
It's not standby, it's remote start mode. It means the processor is in low power mode and the NIC and fan are on, etc.
