hm. maybe the coding folks within this forum want to consider signing this: http://www.petitiononline.com/RSX/petition.html its a petition to sony regarding rsx (ps3 graphics chip) access from hypervisor (linux, any other homebrew software). dont know if this petitions actually work, but 6100+ signees so far does not look too bad. cheers, f
It's an online petition with no financial motivation for the petitioned party, ergo it is doomed to failure.
Don’t jump to conclusions Alchy :110: Didn't you hear about the Bioshock petition to get a limited collection box and they got what they wanted? This just proves with enough signatures it could happen so keep them going
It'll never work. Sony make money off licensed software. If you could run 3D games via Linux then where would Sony get their money back from? Also the PS3 can play many formats so I doubt that argument will hold water with Sony. EDIT (in terms of movies and so forth)
Sony aren't exactly famous for making their machines totally accessable, Yaroze was limited and the Sony PS2 Kit had restrictions regarding the IO hardware. Wonder how many of these people own a PS3?
well, they are marketing it as a "computer" aswell... they could at least give access to the chip and 128mb of its 256mb memory, allthough i dont think people will easily port game-os-stuff to linux. and: i am in singapore, so i could buy a 60gb ps3 for 400 euros, but i wont until either gta4 is released, or they give us access to the chip. whatever comes earlier.
Somehow you probably aren't in the group of people that Sony might be aiming the console at, although I am sure Rockstar will be happy that you will buy a console for one of their games.
