hi members , i got a PS3 Slim in today and it was as simple fix as reformatting the Hard Drive i was really stoked so i decided to do a Fan Mod and things went horribly wrong.

i got the POT connected up and fired the PS3 on all seemed good i cranked the POT and it got to a point and the PS3 shut off and i smelled a burning smell , after that all i get when connecting the power cable is a dim red LED if i press power it turns green ( still dim ) but i get no video.

really bummed , from a high to a extreme low

any suggestions welcome on how to bring this PS3 from the dead

hi LeHaM , what would you like photos of the PSU ?

btw i got the DMM out before and i tested the PSU Pin 1+2 it comes up 5.5V which is a good sign , although i havent tested 12V mode.

i just checked the cable that goes from the PSU to the Motherboard for continuity and it comes up good , also it doesnt have any burn marks on it

btw when i smelled the burn smell it was really quick , i got the PS3 and put it up to my nose and couldnt get a whiff of where the burning had come from

Yeah pics of the psu and motherboard, especially around the 12v points and fan connector, there should be some aluminium caps near the fan header.

Those are fuses so use a multimeter and check every fuse, there are some thermal fuses marked on the mobo as THxxxx there should be a few, check them too.
