The slim is obviously different. The three beeps behavior is something programmed and it can be changed easily if the designers desire to. Microsoft changed the design on the XBOX360 to no longer flash the ring of light RED after strong negative feedback from their customers. Just because people disliked that red ring of light lights.

They changed it so the power led lights red when there's a fault condition. All they needed to do was change the programming on the sub CPU which controls the motherboard systems (on the XBOX it's called SMPC, same name given to similar devices on PCs.)

Hey s8n, were you eventually able to get to the root of the problem?

hi owl , unfortunately no but im still looking for an answer................

i have had a couple of other people interested in this issue as well as their SSlim has the same problem , i believe $ony know how to fix it but they will never release a fix as they want us to send our consoles to them so they can rake in more cash.

someone will come up with a fix at some point

I'm curious to know what the "P" in "SMPC" stands for. I'm only familiar with "SMC" (System Management Control, if I remember correctly). "Power", perhaps?

Sounds to me like a problem with the CPU/GPU connections, but the Super Slim shouldn't have that problem. I would have just left it intact and contacted Sony. Complain that the thing didn't work from day one and get it repaired, since it should still be under warranty. But it's a bit late for that now. I doubt it's some conspiracy where Sony is actively refusing to fix a common problem. It's probably just cost-cutting gone bad (although my Super Slim is fine, but it does get a bit hot at times). Personally, I'd just count my losses and flog it off. Let some other sucker deal with it. I doubt that it's worth the trouble.
