    ...like my next door neighbor.

Well, the first rumor is that, currently, the innards of a Playstation 3 are too large to functionally fit in the case. Although fat people can suck in their massive guts or cram fists fulls of cellulite down into a slimming girdle, no such option exists for the PS3, meaning that either the sleek and empty cases they’ve been showing off will have to grow larger to accommodate the electronic bulk or the components themselves will have to shrink… and soon. The second rumor? Sony is still bidding on components. As Inquirer states: “This means the development is far from final, and it will be debugging up to, and in a Microsoft overheating manner, past the last minute. Not a good sign.â€￾

The last bit of bleakness is the rather astounding news that the OS that the PS3 will be running on will consume 25% of the system’s core and 18.75% of the system RAM! Holy crap! Don’t we buy consoles so we don’t have to deal with that sort of OS overhead?

An article in this month's Edge states that one SPU will be used for security and OS functions. The XBox360 also uses some threads of its CPUs for the same thing, though both consoles will tweak this overhead with firmware upgrades in the future.

Not sure about the RAM, but I would imagine this is an exaggeration. I am assuming the XBox360 OS also takes up some of the RAM. Supposedly developers will only use 2-3 SPUs at first anyway.

Not anymore I'm afraid. The console manufacturers are under the mistaken impression that people don't have computers and that they want all the functionality of said computer in a console. Of course, there are people who want that functionality (one of these days I will test out that 360 media connection, I swear) the problem is that it is taking more and more of the design time and hardware infrastructure to do so. And it makes the consoles cost more and last a shorter period of time.

The PS3s at GDC were the size of DVD players, but not final h/w yet.

It sounds like Sony is scrambling to get this "powerhouse" done in time. I don't see why. I figure if you take your time on something, you can come out with a smashing product.

Is the Dreamcast situation all over again: with the X360 gaining momentum Sony is desperated to get the PS3 on the shelves before MS takes a bite of the market outta them.

A suicidal attitude if you ask me, since:
*PS2 was already a pain in the ass to code, and...
*MS isnt SEGA, they have even more resources to spend and the developers have no motivation to go sony's way like with the DC (cuz you know, SEGA had an image problem).

Difference being that with PS2, Sony moved up the release timeframe, while PS3 has been delayed once already.

I wonder if PS3 was rushed up to begin with, since in E3 2005 it looked like some concept R&D project and some last hour industrial design (just check the banana controller).

Now the delay is simply because they had nothing one year ago...

Look people i can read a news site if i wish, and i hope so can every other member here. The retarted topic about the ps3 being rushed, delayed, stupid controlers and everything else have been bashed over in many a topic and not every single new rumour deserves a new topic.

Please everyone in general think about the topics you are copying from a main news site and pasting here. Take time to work out if the topic has a decent talking point and enough actual new information to warrant a new topic!
