Don't want to change your opinion but down here a PSTwo costs 800 / 900 Reais = 372 / 418 Dollars. This price is for the imported american console. Just imagine the cost of the imported japanese console. Although we all talk about Dev and proto stuff, this does not mean we all spend tons of money to have them. Some don't even have those kind of stuff.
For me it's more about redundancy. I know a lot of people here collect console variations, and if that's your thing then fine. But if we're just talking about playing Japanese, American and European PSX games (for example) then I'm going to go for one console with a modchip. I don't have the room, time or inclination to be screwing around with three nearly identical consoles when one will do. I also think it'd be a waste of money, but you may differ. As an aside, it's not generally a good way to enter a forum by calling people cheapasses, and then saying they've got their heads up their asses when they explain why they have different opinions. I'm also not sure exactly what "others" you're referring to but it sounds vaguely paranoid.
Whats that meant to mean about "others" in this country? Also not everyone knows where to look or have the money to spend on two ps2s that are likely to break down on you in time... Also my tv is wallmounted so swaping consoles all the time would be the biggest bitch around. Just because someone decides to not line sonys pockets twice doesnt mean they are being cheapasses...
I made a post in a similar thread on the same issue. I'm a little "two-sided" with this idea, in that I think some different region games have that extra difference/secret which is always exciting to find. At the same time it seems more efficient for Sony and customers to have an all region console. Am I a cheapass for buying consoles on the release date of their predecessors (ex: XBOX on launch of 360)? P.S. It's a joke, not to be taken seriously...
They sure are. Japan and the US have the same region code for Blu-Ray movies. My only question now is how will Sony handle the region issue when it comes to PS1 and PS2 games? Region 1: North America, South America, East Asia except for China (India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia etc.) Region 2: Europe and Africa Region 3: China, Russia and other countries
Now THAT was friendly... Look, man, I'm not looking to offend you or anything. If you can afford two consoles, more power to you. There's places in the world where getting even one console is a lot more effort than in your country. I wish that imports shops would sell AND send things to Mexico. I don't know how much you make a month. I myself get 300 dollars for a month of work (which is what a PS2 would cost you, should you buy it outside the black market), and I make way more than minimum wage, comparatively. I cannot buy two consoles. And if I COULD buy two consoles, there's like one or two online vendors that would send them my way. If I EVEN had a credit card. I'm not being "cheap" by not buying two consoles. I don't have dev hardware, but I admire it. I hardly ever get to SEE import games, but I've read all about them on the net. And yes, I own CDR copies of some of them, bought in shady anime conventions and black market stands. So, back on topic, not that it matters to us in Latin America anyway (Since the PS3 will come so overpriced, I'm thinking less than 1% of the people here might afford it at launch), it's great news that you can get JP games without modding or getting a second console. I myself am not getting it, but I'm hoping the other companies work likewise.
Good point. One would hope they'd take out the region check for older formats too. Being in the position of owning a shed load of PS1 PAL games and a US PS2, and thus repurchasing a few of the classic PS1 games I own again in NTSC format, I'd be very interested in this prospect. I realise I could buy a PAL PS2, but I travel a lot so I have limited baggage space. Also I have better things to spend my money on! As a side to this, what are the best places to get PS1 games in the USA other than eBay, ebgames, gamestop or amazon? Are there any good retro mail order or online stores? Back in the day I used to skim through the adverts for Funcoland (not sure on the name...) but I think they were bought out by gamestop.
