So they`ve taken away the second controller and games then...i`m still not interested. £300 with no backwards compatibility will shift units but it`s still a rip off IMO with all the bits stripped from it. They will have a hard time shifting the "overly expensive console which lacks software" label they have, even with all this price and bundle jiggery pokery.
Why buy a stripped out version when you can import a system with all of the additional bits for roughly the same price? It's not the system for me, but it will attract a few more PS owners I am certain of it. Given the list of titles the 360 has and the specifications, if I were buying my first "next gen" console today, I'd be looking at the 360 and feeling that the PS3 has become a poor second choice. It does mean you'll be able to buy a second-hand unit for roughly £250.00 in places like GameStation etc within the next few months.
The 40gb version is coming out in Japan at a supposed $340 (£170) add shipping to that baby and you have a ps3 for what £220? It`s coming out in ceramic white too!
I have seen other colours mentioned too - but frankly I don't care so much about what the case looks like so much as what they have removed. Leaving b/c aside, I feel that HDD size is important as is wifi. Sony gets me using wifi as a default as it's built in and access to everything is free, simple and very straight forward. Remove that feature and fewer customers will bother using their website, downloading new material, viewing the crucial advertising & marketing that Sony desperately needs to push this unit, add ons, new games & their films. In a stripped down version they should have removed bluray compatibility, kept all the gaming features, had wifi and b/c. I could live without the bluray, but Sony can't - they NEED bluray to succeed so in a way the gaming community is playing second fiddle to their involvement in the film industry. If you are a film buff, you should be able to buy the Game/Film pack, for a gamer you should have the PS1/PS2 and PS3 gamers delight! I've never seen the point of 4 USB inputs - 2 would have been sufficient and I am sure that had it become crucial I could simply have plugged in an expander! All those memory card slots seemed totally pointless too. A sort of Core / Premium, but both with HDD and wifi. That makes more sense to me. Let's see what they do with this new system however eh!
As games become larger in the next few years I think the PS3 with it`s BluRay compatibility will really come into it`s own. With GTA4 taking a lot of time to downsize for the 9GB DL discs and more titles being PS3 only due to size constraints.
im looking forward to seeing how the PS3 story pans out.. as the Only PS3 owner amongst many of my friends and family, i am being consistently asked when i am goin g to sell my PS3/PX for a 360.. i have decided that i will not do this and will bide my time.. i knowit will be worth it in teh long run!
I have both and only the PS3 as it was free (long story) Not only mine but virtually everyone I know that has one has had it sitting collecting dust for ages I even had a guy from Virgin Media come to replace a cable box, looked at my set up in my office at home......watched BIOSHOCK and listened and watched Lego Star Wars on 360 and via a good surround system and he said he was going to go and get a 360 on the way home and relegate the PS3 to the back room/small telly Regardless of how much they change the system, reduce the price I still think even a lot of PS3 Fanboys and the like just feel like they are still being robbed and for no games Just look at the Halo 3 launch recently......biggest ever of anything ever How many none or casual gamers will look at this then the PS3 debacle (imho) and perhaps stay away Regardless of PS3 Home whenever that get`s released and also the TV thing as well, but how far away is this in reality Mini rant over ;-)
Too be honost me.. I don't care about the PS2 backward comp. really as I have enough ways to play them, also the removed card reader? I really don\t know why I should use that one.. and the extra USB ports I don't care about neighter.. smaller hdd? as I am unable to play homebrew on it I don't mind it being 40gb for now, and I am sure it's upgradable eventually. As for Importing one with all feat. for the same price, well it would be nice and I'd rather go for that option if I could but I guess that the import tax would ruin that idea the second it arrives... :/
Yep, the HDD is upgradeable (something i checked before buying the 20GB JP model..) Straight forward PC drive.
