Hello, The PS3 website has just been launched for Europe only apparently, link is here. Nice of Sony to treat Europe before the rest of the world lol, since Europe will be the last to get the machine, at least we get the pictures. The massive Sony marketing machine is upon us, that's where generally they are the best. And they do position the machine very well and explains their choices nicely... Though the launch line up tastes like not enough... 599 euros for a playstation nah...no way, I'm keeping my 360...for now Sabre
So that's £1100 for a Bravia TV and £500 for a PS3, extra controller and a game. Sony is bleeding me dry *sob*
no big bonus there. My stereo does as well and to be honest there isn't that much of a difference if any at all. Aren't they recorded at 48htz or something? Yakumo
From wikipedia: SACD uses a very different technology from CD and DVD-Audio to encode its audio data, a 1-bit delta-sigma modulation process known as Direct Stream Digital at the very high sampling rate of 2.8224 megahertz. And I thought my 24bit 192Khz soundcard had a high sampling rate  Apparently there are only 3,000 releases of SACDs, with 40% of it being classical, I was really impressed the first time I heard SACD and it was on a Sony stereo :noooo: but yeah only the hear-trained can feel the difference, I guess for Classical musical it's gotta sound less compressed than on cd. But coming to PS3 it's indeed very limited added value to none for a gamer. Sabre
I study music tech, am very picky about audio encoding etc, but the one time I heard a SACD I wasn't blown away. Nothing special at all in my opinion, there's a reason why redbook was chosen in the first place - it's more than adequate.
You said it ! I wonder who invented SACD anyway........hmm.......... Yet another way to squeeze money out of people. Yakumo
So you are telling me that you dont want better quality formats? so you are happy with vhs and casette?
No, I'm saying that in my experience the difference in quality is negligible and I'm not that bothered by it, and since I'm usually very picky about audio fidelity that's not much good. As I said in my original post.
Not really. It's just another choice for Audiophiles. DVD Audio kind of killed SACD though, I suppose.
44100 wasn't chosen because of any magical audio properties, nyquist was only correct for pure sine waves. All the technical information you heard at the time was just marketting guff. It was chosen for economic reasons. 1. they had a limited amount of storage space on the cd. 2. they wanted to use video recorders for storage, three samples per line * 294 lines * 50 frames a second = 44100. It's hard to compare statistics of sacd to cd because they work differently. Supposedly it's the equivalent of 20bits at 88khz. However not all consumer equipment is able to reproduce this, from the player to the amp to the speakers. So you may never notice a difference. smf
