I was given a fat ps3 the other day and just got around to checking it out. it has the YLoD. I have taken it apart and replaced thermal paste, and its stll YLoD.

Any advice on what can be done or is this system even able to be saved?

    Thanks in advance!

    Reflow the board
    Redo the solder joints

    Those are your options usually.

Yeah, reflowing it with an oven or heatgun is really your only economical option. You can get it reballed but for the price it costs, you may as well just buy another PS3.

Lots of tutorials online on how to do it. But it's at most a bandaid fix and will fail again inevitably.

    Have fun.

    :)

BTW changing the paste will not magically cure YLOD, changing the paste should be done BEFORE YLOD as preventative maintenance.
