Hello! I'm new here and joined because I need some advice on how to alter a Dualshock 4 controller. I'm physically disabled and have a tough time holding the PS4 controller but not the Dualshock 3. My question, is there any way I could take the guts of one controller and put it into another? Any ideas would be great. I know there's the touchpad, but maybe that could just be external and not attached completely.

What you are purposing would not be practical considering the innards of the controller… the design as is, would not work in a smaller controller such as a PS3 DualShock ... or any other controller. Hori does make two PS4 compatible controllers; but unfortunately, neither one has a touchpad… that limits your gaming library for those games that require use of the touchpad. They make custom ergonomic enhancements for controllers that are used as standard gear for many professional/serious gamers … or anyone wanting to improve the comfort/functionality of their gaming controller. There are several different enhancements that can be made to the PS4 controller – you can see those options here. Perhaps one or all those mods could better the comfort of your gaming experience with the PS4 controller … hope this helps.
