Has anyone heard any feedback on overheating issues on PS4s that sit in a cabinet? We're looking at getting some in at work and the PS4s will be sitting inside a spacious MDF cabinet (on their own, so no other heat-generating components colocated), with the front doors having holes in a perforated kind of shape (thus allowing airflow while keeping the consoles secure). We haven't had any issues with Wii and WiiU consoles in the past, but I know I've had nightmares with launch window model Xbox 360s in the same environment. There is also a hole cut out on the rear and top to allow for AV and power cables to go through which won't hurt with heat dissipation. I'm looking at having them in standby when not in use and setting up power saving settings in case they don't get switched off as well. Any thoughts?
You'd certainly become aware if it was. There's a feature built in where the LED goes red if it becomes too hot.
Make sure there's holes in unit. An entertainment unit I bought recently didn't have any... Why not? I don't know it's a damn entertainment unit and label as one on the box. Anyway, a circle cutter will do the trick. Of course don't push the PS4 all the way to the back of unit have as far to the front as possible.
The good news is that later PS3 models and the PS4 models will let you know if its too hot. The non backwards compatible fat PS3, the slim and super slim PS3 will show a message: And PS4 does this:
Thanks guys, some great feedback there! I reckon we'll be fine with the above in mind with our current cabinet design, but will keep an eye the the system warnings, too.
