So I had the chance to trade a dreamcast system for a PS4 system that was said to be broken. The PS4 system when powered up will beep and shutoff almost instantly. Reading online seems it most commonly is a bad PSU so I opened the system up to see which version I have (4 pin or 5 pin) and pulled out the HDD from the system. I was wondering while I wait for a new psu and some better thermal paste I was wondering if there was any way to read the contents of the HDD on a computer? I am wanting to see what is on the system, mainly if the P.T. demo was installed. I know I could just wait until I get the system fixed. But the concern is that if it is not the power supply that is bad then it could be a paired chip that went bad and only sony can repair that by installing a new pair. Anyone got ideas on what I can do to read the data? James
As of right now there's no way to explore the contents unless youre on 1.76 and use the kernel exploits available. HDDs are encrypted with per-console keys (as expected, like the PS3). So unfortunately no available tools except a PS4 itself can read the drive. Also PT has been dumped AND decrypted now, people already have looked through the data and even did some model swaps in MGSV
Hey PixelButts thank you for that. I'm not sure what version firmware is on the console. Would be nice if that low but at same time I would be okay with something higher since I plan to use the system to play any ps4 games. With PT being decrypted does that mean people have figured out how to reinstall it on systems? Or is that only for 1.76?
