Will it work. My debug is a DTL-H30101. I have a PSBBN 0.20 Disc coming in the mail from an Ebay Auction. I have a FFXI HDD and I should be able to get a spare next week. The NA HDD Utility Disc works on the debug. It's either that or I need to get one of those External BB Units for my SCPH-10000 although both would be better. Sorry If this has been asked or answered, I did use the search but didn't see a definitive answer. Also does the PSBBN disc have a DVD Driver installer and if so does it require a functioning HDD to install it like the HDD Utility disc. Thanks, I expect it to take 2-3 weeks to arrive so I need to get ready.
Psbbn works fine on the dtl-h3010x series, as does the hdd utility disc. Iirc there is an update of the dvd driver on the psbbn disc, it needs a memory card, it won't work on a TEST unit.
Thanks, that answers my first question. I know the DVD driver won't install on a debug, my question then is can I install it using my SCPH-10000 without the HDD or is it like the HDD Utility disc where it won't even get to the menu without first seeing an official HDD (Thus making it useless for that right now).
DebugStation (TEST) consoles have different memory card magic gate keys for KELFs. It simply won't work regardless how much effort you put on it. It can only decrypt KELF files of "DISK" type (aka utility disc boot files and the HDD related stuff). And it will only work with MC type KELF if the memory card is a DTL-H10020 with the proper KELF in it. There's threads regarding that specific card in this very forum.
I'm starting to get a bit frustrated, I wasn't asking about the DVD drivers on the debug, that was about PSBBN on the debug. In the HDD Utility Disc 1.10 if you boot the disc WITHOUT a Sony HDD installed, it errors out before reaching the menu. Because of that the HDD Utility Disc is USELESS for installing the DVD driver even on a retail unless you have an official HDD installed. I am trying to get a DVD installer for my SCPH-10000, which doesn't have the driver built in, is the PSBBN like the HDD Utility disc in that respect or can I actually install the DVD driver from the PSBBN disc without the hard drive, which for this revision of the PS2 is almost impossible to get in any reasonable manner.
The point is, that to install a driver on a memory card, the unit should be able to decrypt it in order to generate the memory card specific key. So the install process will only work on a retail unit, sadly. You could do it if you had for example an retail SCPH-30000 with a harddrive and the PSBBN disc. PM me and I'll try to help you.
So I have 5 choices, Get or borrow another NTSC-J PlayStation 2, Find an External BB Unit, Get a different DVD Installer, have someone install it for me, or screw it. I think I might be able to borrow a SCPH-37000 from someone if I have to. Or is there an alternative installation method ie: using one of the memory card exploits. I also have some NTSC-U/C systems too.
Memory card exploits won't get around the need of using a Japanese PS2 with a suitable utility disc (well the PS2 DVD remote which comes with a IR sensor do come with a DISC and said disc comes with DVD driver 2.00J). The only problem with the PSBBN discs are the need of having a HDD for them to work. Also pirated copies of utility discs won't work as there's a special watermark on the copy protection sector of the disc which contains the data the installer need to locate the to be installed files on the disc sectors. >_< It's intentionally made to not work if the PS2 has a mod chip or if the disc is a copy.
If we can derive the original file key ("un-sign" for memory card), yes. Which requires figuring the card specific keys for his own card.
Been busy this week with a cold and several trips, sorry. How would I dump the card's keys if it is possible.
Would have to get a file we know the contents key for and send your way to sign on your card. This process has not been tested yet, though.
Sounds like too much trouble to make it worthwhile, The DVD remote is common enough so I'll probably find an importer.
Awesome. Welcome to the world of the original PS2 HDD. Be sure to play around with the Open PS2 Loader and ODEM (Kermit) game loaders as they work with your hardware.
