PSone BAM laser in SCPH-1002 PSX console?

I had a go at something today for a laugh to see if i could cure the FMV skipping bug that plagues the earlier PSX consoles...





It fits well but when i try to load games it just makes a ticking sound (I'm sure you all know that PSX tick sound the laser mech makes...) I'm not sure if this PSone laser came from a working console so... does anyone know if these are compatible and I'm being an idiot in trying or if it will actually work with a working laser?

Or the laser can't have the right angle whit the CDs
