Psone laser performance

I recently bought some ps1 games that have some scratches on them. There is no problem if tested with a ps2 or ps3 but they fail to load with my psone (boot logo is shown but nothing more).
These are the first games failing in that psone since I guess the others are better preserved.
Do you know if it is possible to achieve a better reading performance in a psone (small later model) like the one in ps2/3 consoles?
