So I scored a PSone with Official Sony LCD screen for a 5$ game trade. The good news is I was able to get it running, screen and all after some cleaning and minor repairs but...all the screw holders that keep the screen attached to the mechanism that allows you to keep the screen at the angle of choice..are busted. Every screw holder but 2 on each side (Screen and rear adapter) are broken. I don't think there's enough glue or epoxy to get it to hold. Heck, i'd have to rebuild the holders then get it all to stay in place! I've looked everywhere and cannot find any website that has replacement LCD screen lids. Just wondering if anyone had seen any, or even a cheap broken screen since all I need is a functioning lid.
I -MIGHT- be able to get one for you @Ashevent. I'll let you know tomorrow for sure. If I can't get something together then I hope someone else on here has what you need.
Dude, you're the gift that keeps on giving..lol. Thanks! I'm headed to a huge swap meet next weekend so maybe be able to find one so don't go to too much trouble. Thanks for looking out btw!
Problem is, the "holders" didn't break off..they shattered..like into a bunch of tiny little pieces..there's no pieces big enough to rebuild with epoxy.
if all else fails, use small nuts and bolts(through the lid, painted white), don't forget the locktight!
Through the lid?! ahhh heresy!..lol. I'm debating on just trying to rebuild the holders from plastic epoxy clay and then tapping them for the bolts. if that doesn't work and I can't find a replacement lid..heck, I may have to drill that sucker through.
Hey @Ashevent. Really sorry man, but my friends spare PSOne screen has the exact same issue as yours it seems like a pretty common issue with them.
Do what I did make some metal or plastic poles that sit in whats remaing of the scre wholes and epoxy them in. Then put in the hinges and epoxy the hell out of that. Just as strong and good as new with no visual difference.
Hello ashevent, I was extremely happy to find to a recent post reporting on this issue. After an intense amount research, I found only old fourms which contained little information on the issue. I've recently purchased a LCD screen with a chipped hinge. I thought the chip made it not sturdy, but it also rattles. This makes me think we have the same problem. Were you able to find a solution? Thanks, any information is appreciated greatly. This is my first LCD screen. I was way too excited about it to face defeat so I'm going to take on this challenge.
My issue was the plastic holders on the inside of the hinge. Nothing on the outside was broken like yours. The bad news is, the only way to get into the assembly is removing the speaker screen to access some screws, and maybe you can..But I couldn't get those off without tearing them. (can't find replacements yet, maybe i'll find white speaker cloth?) To fix the inside: I found some small plastic dowels at a craft store (i think they were crochet needles) and epoxied the hell out of them. Then I tapped the appropriate side screw hole it centers, screwed the lid into place and it held. I opened and closed it a few times then left it in place up open so I don't tempt fate..lol Not sure how well this would do for continuous use but seems to be holding for now
Thanks so much for the last response. Woah dude, that's pretty crafty in a genius type of way, Well played. I'm trying to visualize how you did that (especially with a crotchet needle), but really can't. I guess the dowels acted as new holders for the hinges and you used the same screws. Do you think that the chip on the outside is the only problem? I was thinking the other hinge would be enough to hold it up. When I shake my screen it rattles. I'm thinking the holders shattered like yours.
Let me help you with this guys. I have a PSONE LCD screen too, currently is failing ( I will post asking for help to fix it later) but when I buy it, a couple of years ago, it was working properly, even that the broken Screw HOLDERS and the HInge were also a problem. Exactly like in the previous pictures. My screen couldnt even stand vertically , just cause this accesory use low quality plastic for the case. But at the end I was able to fix it properly. Here at my country there is a product called MOLDIMIX (just google it), is something similar to clay. You have to mix both yellow and blue colors and it turns in green. Once is mixed in green this product will begun to get "dry" and became strong as a rock, but since is pretty much close as a clay , you can mold any kind of pieces if you have enough skills. It also will get sticked to any kind of material by itself, with just a small pressure, so if you learn how to use it properly, you can fix almost any kind of plastic case issue with your PSONE LCD screen or other accesories. After several hours, (lets say 12 hours or maybe a little more since it depends on the weather ) Once the product became dry, it became pretty much strong, and you can paint it in order your repair look much better. Obviously I use it to rebuild the Screw Holders, The Hinge and even fix some small cracks at the case by the inside. Well I hope this tip will help you guys.
