I'm wondering if psone memory card really exists? I'm talking about a white memory card with a logo of PSone instead of PlayStation. I found somewhere information that all memory cards with this logo are fake. What do you think? There are some with a box and plastic case on ebay e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Memory...ion-1-PS1-PS-one-System-Box-Lot-/121292872486
I've had one of these for a few years, I'm not sure I'd crack it open to confirm whether it's real or not though.
I'm with tichua in that I've never seen a retail memory card with PSone on it. Also, during the PSone's release, weren't most memory cards encased in plastic and not a box?
They were in a box for the original PlayStation launch, then moved to a blister pack. The style of these PSone boxes matches the style of the PSone console box. I can't say for definite that I saw one of these in a shop, but the console was pretty dead when it was launched and I don't recall seeing a PSone either (they were probably there but I wouldn't have been paying attention). It might be that Sony produced a load of PSone cards but no shops took them because they already had a load of PlayStation branded memory cards and even when they ran out were unlikely to order more in because people would just buy second hand ones or clones. While I'm not saying PSone branded cards are definitely legitimate, I don't see any evidence either way.
I would be very grateful if you could post a picture of its inside here. The only evidence I've found so far is that Sony released a memory card which seems to be dedicated to PSone but it has PlayStation logo and not PSone's. I don't think that they released two variants of memory cards for PSone. Maybe someone (apart from smf) has a memory card with PSone logo and can post a photo of its inside too. It should be easy to recognise its originality looking at its PCB.
I have couple cards that look the same card as above, they have Playstation logo but not PSOne. Further inspecting the the images provided by the sellers. I would say I'm more confident that they are fake by looking at the memcard manual. The image is here http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/n3kAAOxyNo9SwEx4/$_57.JPG The manual looks like a piece of xerox copy paper rather than a well printed document that we usually see from Sony product. I have couple Japanese Memcard that has Japanese writing like the one on the listing but they look nice and high quality. I will dig them out and take some pics for comparison. I think Sony would have not gone that cheap to use photocopy for their manuals. The image is from the same seller. His listing is here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-So...1?pt=US_Video_Game_Memory&hash=item1c3ab55eb9
"PSOne" memory cards aren't original sony products. The PSOne memory card was exactly the same as the original PlayStation one. I think they released the white version to match the PSOne, just like the picture posted by Bodzio. Fakes: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-So...Playstation-1-PS1-PS-one-System-/121244049081 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-So...-Playstation-1-PS1-PSone-System-/161229008363 By the way, if you are worried about getting a fake one by mistake, just look for colored clear models, so you can see the board through the case. further evident that it's fake. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/7ZoAAOxycmBSwFVz/$_57.JPG The model number SCPH-102 which is the same as the PSOne console in PAL region. the SCPH-10x is reserved for hardware not accessories. And Sony would not use the same model number for their PSOne PAL hardware and the memorycard. It would confuse the heck out of everyone.
Also, by the time the PSOne was released all packaging was already changed from cardboard to sealed plastic. Not really environmentally friendly and also causes Wrap Rage
Now I can say I'm completely confirmed in my suspicions that those cards don't exist. It means that this memory card on the right is also fake in spite of being placed in a sealed plastic? I also have a few original memory cards. Today I even received one from Japan with a box and manual and it's clearly visible that it was made by Sony.
