from what I can recall multimode 3 with 7 or 8 wires to enable stealth (4 only if not) was the best at the end but I'm not sure.
Considering the chips, just order some free samples from microchip to check if they are compatible (i'm pretty sure of it, would have done it but it's currently unavailable for my country...pretty strange cause I had lots of 12F629 this way...)

    RISE THREAD! EAT THEIR BRAINS!

12F508 is working in my PAL PSone with colour fix as well (on the back on the board). I used the ONEchip. I found after a fair bit of trial and error (thank you flash!) the GQ-4X doesn't seem to program them properly (or maybe my GQ-4X is fried as Bad_Ad keeps suggesting - new programmers on order ;) - I ended up using a PICkit2 and their default software and ended up with all the code where it should be.

Now I've got another one to do for myself and then four phatties to program in some MM3 goodness onto the much simpler (from a programming point) 12F629s. I know they work well in the GQ-4X which saves me from soldering a PICkit to a 12F508! :)

Used the standard ONEchip pinouts (8 pins connected to various points), and just the regular old hex.

Hope you are all doing well! :D

Edit: As a bonus I found a cracked / dry joint on the power socket! What a deal :)
