It combines Action Replay and modchip functionality. Once you boot the console, you'll get the Multi Chip menu, and you'll be able to boot your game, whether it's an original, a backup or an import. You can enable cheats, browse the contents of the disc [to play FMVs or boot executables other than the main one], manage your saves, etc.

As far as I know, it's supposed to be stealth as well, meaning you should be able to boot games which contain modchip detection code. Anti-piracy measures in newer PlayStation games could detect older modchips, which meant you weren't even able to run protected originals, as the code checked for the presence of a modchip, not for disc authenticity.

Yes it does come with instructions, but its pretty easy..

I changed mine around a bit, there are 3 wires to solder in and a IC clip, that is all there is to it. IF you want VCD playback then you will need to install the AV clip too (But it makes a faint buzzing noise in the left audio)

The purple wire can be attached with a switch to maintain the original bios (Like what I did).

Also the power connector for the chip should be de-soldered and installed on the top of the pcb (Like in my pic), otherwise it wont go back together.

The one he was asking about gives you this screen:

    PsOneMultiChip.jpg

It's not a single chip, either. It's a small PCB with an epoxy blob, and it shouldn't be confused with a "multi-x chip", which is a general name for any single-chip mod. The chip visible on the picture you enclosed is your regular multi-x chip, and on its own, it does not change the appearance of the BIOS.

I know that the D.I.Y. Movie Cards give you a similar menu, adding the VCD option at the top, but they're huge. The Multi Chip is relatively small and it fits inside a PSOne, and besides, who's watching VCD's these days?

I know what you are talking about multichip. I have also tried to find info or hex code for it but no luck.
Would love to get my hands on an actual chip and try to dump it.

    Judging from that picture:

    There are 2 glob tops
You solder it in and it replaces the bios
You also solder connections for the common modchip points.

Id say the board is 2 chips, one is a modchip and the other is a bios replacement. You just need to get a dump of the bios, program it to a chip and also fit a modchip and you will end up with the same thing.

If someone has one of these, id be interested to see it and dump it. Could make a DIY replacement

Looking at the picture the chip is on top of the BIOS so I guess it has a socket to fit right in place.
I wonder if the BIOS that my Chinese supplier sells have the this menu.

I have one of the VCD card things posted in this thread. I may try dumping it and programming to a chip, to use in replacement to the original bios.

I have one too, installed it along with a modchip. No need to swap discs for vdc or antimod games. To lazy to remove it and try to read the chip.
I'm might have to give in and order a few of the BIOS from my Chinese supplier. They are only $0.80. Just to check them out since he said you have the option of changing from PAL to NTSC

I'll take one for experiments. The vcd card - I have 2 of them still in the box. Can dump the chip easy enough tomorrow
