What would you try next if all of the fuses were working, the power jack is outputing the correct voltage but the voltage regulator isn't giving off anything worthwhile (doesn't look abnormal physically)?
Waiting on one from eBay, wasn't sure if there were other known issues as I can't find anything on Google in the meantime.
hi Nully , the power socket on the PS1 may be loose as in the solder has come loose from inserting and removing the PSU plug. Maybe inspect it for a break and do some Continuity tests with a DMM , also a reflow of the connector could help. see the below Youtube video of what i mean.......fast forward to the 10:00 minute mark
Yeah that's not the issue, I bought a bunch of them and already had to fix that twice yesterday. This one is just completely dead past the power jack, but I checked all 5 fuses and they are working. Not sure if it's going to be regulator as I haven't seen one that wasn't physically damaged before but wasn't sure where else to probe as all I can find is 1000 results about the fuses.
As s8n said it could be one of the most common reason. But if it has normal connection but there is no input voltage to regulator I recommend you to check power on switch. That was my problem mounth ago. It's just need some cleaning inside. Be carefull disassembling it.
I swapped a working voltage regulator with no success and replaced all the SMD fuses just to rule the speculation out from another working board. I'll check the power switch out now.
Also Armorant's comment about being careful while disassembling the switch is not to be taken lightly. There is about 6 pieces in there that popped out with the spring/terminals that fell out of place and some mystery tiny metal bracket if you're attempting this repair in the future.
This is similar to SNES reset buttons. I received several that worked otherwise but wouldn't reset. I just disassembled them and cleaned the metal parts with isopropanol, then reassembled them and they worked. Possibly something to do with oxidisation? Or maybe just dirty?
My metal contacts looked a bit corroded, but I haven't tried to put it back together yet as it was pulled from a dead board and I'd rather not try to finagle that thing back together if I don't have to.
I use Deoxit for cleaning switches/knobs and other stuff. It is popular with musicians for their gear , i used it on my Denon Amplifier as there was some dust caught in one of the knobs , the Amp was making a scratchy sound every time i turned up the volume. I used the sprays and problem resolved , below are the applicator version which i use MVS Carts and Cartridge Slots etc......
