Has anyone ever done this with success? I have x-com : Terror from the deep from psone I want to play.
If I understood well you want to convert the PAL game to run in your NTSC unit, right? (if you want to mod the console I know it's possible but I don't know how to do it) I remember that back in the day a friend of mine brought me a couple of games from Europe and I wasn't able to play them in my NTSC PSOne, one of them worked with one of those boot discs used to run games from other regions, I couldn't make the other one work and I gave it to another friend who had a PAL PS2 and could make some use of it. Good luck by the way ^^
Not sure about PSone games...I tried to patch a PS2 game once with little success (can't remember the name of the program)...seems to be dependent on the game - hit or miss.
I remember trying to patch some game from NTSC to PAL, total fail. The game became really buggy and crashed from time to time.
the latter PSone models released, the ones with a quicker CD-drive were region free is memory serves.
I've never come across one like that, I even had to do a swap trick to load my boot cd. A yaroze or blue debug will do it, but I assume that assembler doesn't want to run in PAL. You can patch the games, however that often runs the game at the wrong speed. It might be better to use a PAL console, or an emulator.
I have boot a cd called no limit boot cd v2.1. It allows you to force the video mode. In the main menu it's called importplayer light. As far as I remember it was a homebrewn project.
I went over all the utils for psone, and they won't work on this title. There's some import converter cds with a x/y correction and mode force I am going to try. I do have a pal tv, but it would suck to use a 13 inch monitor...
If I'm not wrong I saw some time ago a bunch of cheap PAL --> NTSC converter boxes on ebay, I don't really know how well they work but it can be an option and will probably work better than the converter cd's. BTW, I have a 14 inch TV in my bedroom for the moment (hope to get a LCD soon ^^) and I know what you're talking about, the only good thing about it is that has S-Video and composite input and (like almost every TV here) works with NTSC and PAL, all TV's have to work with both systems here since the television broadcasting format is PAL but all stores sell NTSC DVD players and game consoles...
