Guys, Quick question - does the PSOne (the small one) not output a proper RGB signal? Story is, i got a modded PSOne (PAL Model SCPH-102) cheap on eBay some time ago. Now today when I got it, I picked up a PS2 RGB cable from a local gaming shop. Everything set up at home booting an import -> black and white screen (yeah the classic import error every PAL gamer will know :nod. Im sure my screen does support RGB input, since my PS2 and XBOX Imports all used to work in glory nice RGB and ofcourse in color on the same screen. So before I use this obviously fake RGB cable as a whip and smash the crap out of the store owner who sold me this piece of garbage.. I'm asking here to make sure. I would be really surprised if Sony removed proper RGB output from the PSOne, but who knows.
Does your TV support ntsc at 60hz? try another tv first, i have 3 14" porable tvs in my house and only 1 of them will play imports in colour although im usiing a offical rgb scart lead
Yep this TV does support 60hz as long as it comes from a real RGB signal - I just verified again with a Japanese Gamecube booting up Japanese Luigi's Mansion with a RGB Gamecube cable and its fine. I also tried a second TV with the PSOne (the one i used to play PS1 imports on back in the days) and its black and white too. Thats why i wondered if RGB output got scrapped from PSOne or if the cable i picked up is simply not a real RGB cable but rather a lame component signal simply soldered to a scart plug.
My modded EUR PSOne outputs RGB (for EUR and JPN games, I didn't test it with US games) BUT not on the bios screen! The bios screen is only in composite so the TV take this signal and keep it, but the PSOne send the composite AND RGB signal after booting the game. What I need to do to have the RGB signal taken by my TV is to un-plug the SCART cable after the bios screen, when the game has been booted then re-plug it and TADA, RGB instead of composite. You can try this, maybe it will work for you as it works for me. (I use a PSX cable, but I don't know if it is an original one of a third party RGB one).
Hm I tried this, I didnt work sadly. Thanks for the Tip though. I ordered a new RGB cable, and I'm just gonna hope that works
No. PS1 doesn't output component video at all. Composite, S-Video, and RGB only. You could get black and white component because S-Video contains the Y part of the signal, but not the color difference signals.
Is it just RPG's that won't output or is it other genres too? Sorry ... couldn't resist after reading the title!!
Didnt even notice the RPG typo  Update: New cable arrived today - tried on 2 monitors, all fine. Hooray for colors and sharp RGB signal. Now going to slap a certain seller with the previous cable.
