Hey all For months, PSP owners, with a firmware higher than 2.01 have had to use the GTA loader to run homebrew software and emulators on their psp. That said, the best of the homebrew still didnt run, as it required an original 1.5 firmware. This weekend will go down in PSP history, as the first succesful DowanGrader for 2.5 and 2.6 firmware psp's.... http://pspupdates.qj.net/-Breaking-News-2-50-2-60-Downgrader-v5-Beta-Released/pg/49/aid/57594 I never thought I'd see this day Ryan
This is pretty damned amazing. I guess Sony will start making 2.7 firmware a requirement to run new games... Has anyone heard anything about Undilluted Platinum lately? I know it exists and I've seen a video of it installed working properly. Has anyone here actually purchased or seen one? I was planning on buying it just for research, but money got tight here this week and it's just to expensive right now.
There's been several members from the pspupdates forum who have it. Installation I've heard is a bitch, and is uncompatible with thr TA-82 psp's It seems quite cool, although not that much different than a 1.5 un modded psp...yet.. Personally, with the advent of this newest downgrader, i think it's hindered the UP's sales quite a bit Ryan
Right it is just a beta right now, but there will be a finished working product in the near future. At least they are on the right track. Many people never thought that they would get this far. UP may have had its thunder stolen by this downgrader, but downgraders aren't really a replacement for a chip that allows custom firmware. Can't wait til I can actually try my hand at installing one.
I bloody upgraded to 2.71 to get the LocoRoco demo as 2.6+ seemed a dead duck... oh well, I would rather chip it personally.
Worked very well for me, earlier release's of the downgrader indeed created "bricked" systems, but the latest release has proven to be the most stable, with roughly 98% of all users reporting success Its the most nerve racking 4 minutes of my life Ryan
So what emulation is the PSP capable of? I remember reading SNES and Megadrive games run mostly full speed but what about gameboy/gameboy advance/neogeo?
Emulation is quite good, considering its a portable. To my knoweldge, the psp is capable of emulating(very well) these following consoles NES SNES GameGear SMS MegaDrive Gameboy/Color Neo Geo Neo Geo CD Turbo Grafx 16 Lynx NeoGeo Pocket Wonderswan Dreamcast VMU Commodore 64 Atari 400/800 Colecovison Atari 2600 Several early computers Doom Quake Quake 2 Lua port of starcraft There's also some others that dont quite work flawlessly, although there still a work in progress Playstation 1 N64 Jaguar thats, just the emulators themselves, there's also things like PSPOffice, and IRShell Ryan
Sorry bumping an "old" thread but what I wanna know is if the emulation of genesis/snes on 1.5 psp is the same as in 2.01? I'm asking this 'cause I've tried some games on psp gen emu(I think it was some Gens "spinoff") and it was slow and the music sucked. The same was for the snes emulator. I've overclocked to 333MHz but with no good results. And I think for 2.5/2.6 PSPs, I think GTA is still necessary for the exploit.
The site from which i got the downloads for doom/quake is currently down, ill post the links when its back up... Haljordan.....i assume your a 2.01?.,....my recomendation is, upgrade to 2.6, then run the new downgrader.....you'll be at 1.5,Honestly, SNES emulation ran slow on 2.6, and 1.5 improves it quite a bit, but its still a bit from perfect. Genisis emulation however, has been amazing, even on 2.6 using gta, it was quite good. I used DGEN 0.70 for 2.6 emulation, and it was quite good. on 1.5 however, its bloody perfect You'll notice a fair step up in useability and speed from the gta loader to 1.5 Ryan
Yep, mine is a 2.01 which I got "cheap as hell" on brazilian ebay. I'll keep an eye on pspupdates' forum for upgrading-2-downgrading Btw, I ran sonic 1 on dgen on 2.01 and sound was skipping too much. I've tried all kinds of configuration but never got lucky. Thanks for the info.
I've found that dgen on anything above 2.01 has weird sound, though 1.5 seems to fix it Note, they've also released a 1.5 to 1.00 downgrader, which will eventually allow for a custom firmware to be used, much like the UP's epison bios Ryan

RyanGamerGoneGrazy: I hope you can help me..I really got interested in downgrading my psp but what I wanna know is, will it be able to use some features of the newer firmware? Checking Sony' site, they only show 2.71 to download, is there any reliable site with that FW?
simply put, if you downgrade to 1.5, you can then, via devhook, or some homebrew, have every feature that the later firmwares have. If that still bothers you, and you wantt say, firmware2.6, then download devhook, and emulate it that way, in conclusion, anything that has been done in a higher firmware, has already been done in 1.5 Msn, or pm me if you want to downgrade, or need help Ryan
Hey Guys I have one of the original 1.00 models. It was upgraded to 2.00 when I added Tiger Woods. I'm going to sell it and get the DS as I talked about on another thread. Question: Is it better to downgrade to 1.5 or all the way to 1.0? Is there anything special about having an original 1.00 model?
