My PSP-2001 is no longer accepting power current. At first, I thought I bricked it. However, I found a spare battery with some juice remaining and it powered on my PSP.

I noticed I could not charge any battery through the AC port nor would USB charging mode work.

I have concluded that the power circuit inside the PSP is broken.

Is this PSP beyond saving or can I replace the internal power circuitry?... Is it practical?

did you really use your psp all that much? Did you use it for just games or homebrew/roms/etc? Is your time worth a lot or a little?

If you, a) so so use your psp, b) only for games (not hb, but that don't matter much) and c) value your free time. Then you can just buy a used unit for dirt cheap (around $100ish).

else, sure you can repair it but you probably will have to buy a few parts and take the time to replace them.

Also are you use it's not a dead battery? Like can you run the unit off AC with no battery (you should be able to)?

I'm having a hard time remembering how the internals of the 2001 are configured. Is there a separate board to regulate power? Or has it all been consolidated onto the main board at this point in the PSP evolution?

It's not a bad battery. Like I said, I tried powering the system through AC and through USB and no power goes through.

I use the PSP occasionally, though the HB scene is preparing some cool things and I have the itch to get back into it. I don't pirate, but I like to mess around with the apps and my own games.

fyi you can't power on a PSP through USB. Only after it's booted (HB) and pluged into a PC(non hb). Unless you mean one of the chinese USB->PSP Power plug.

I mean, I was able to verify that the power circuit is busted because no AC was working.. and the only battery I had left with juice in it allowed me to power the PSP on long enough to plug in the USB and select USB MODE... but the battery would not charge.. nor did the battery icon even show a charge animation.

For the USB portion. Make sure Charge by USB is set.

Is USB charging available on the 2k? I thought it was only on the 3k?

Anyway, possibly the AC/DC(?) Adapter might have come loose on the circuit board. Maybe unsoldering and resoldering it might do the trick

Yep, 2k was first to introduce it.

But big issue with this on all devices (including Go) is you must be in sync mode to charge which really is a load of crap (to charge a go outside of sync mode, you need to use the full AC plug and not just the usb cable part).

Yet if you have custom firmware they added a hack to let you charge via usb anywhere on the system.
