Wow, that's really good. Is that normal for Pentium M laptops or do you have some sort of special configuration? However, as good as that is for a laptop, I wouldn't expect Microsoft to use any kind of x86 CPU in this new product. I mean, you're getting 9 hours with a fat heavy laptop battery, Microsoft wants you to get more than 9 hours and also be able to carry this around almost as if it were a PDA. I think they'd use some sort of ARM or similar processor. ...word is bondage...
It's a tablet PC and that is all. It's got a 'cool' new look but it's just a crappy tablet. I mean seriously look at the features it supposedly has, you can do all of that with a laptop or any other tablet.
Yes, it's a tablet, but why does that make it a "crappy tablet." Tablets are some bad ass technology. A lot of people don't seem to realize that. Combining a laptop with a touchscreen--and in this case making it smaller, too--is a great idea. One that I'm sure all the same people who don't see the point now will be taking for granted as a necessity in five years. ...word is bondage...
MS dont give a damn about maclovers, after all they represent just 5% of the market. Now, the target is obviously those who have a PC/laptop (running winXP) and an iPod. The selling scheme may be something like "why you carry a laptop and an ipod when you can carry just one thing that does both?". Is pretty smart since the thing looks way better to watch video (not like the ipod). I agree, the reason why tablets didnt catch-up is becos they are too big for the average PDA/gadget buyer.
Actually when I saw this, I thought it would be pretty good for RPG making programs. I know I would like to use one if I get inspired by something and instantly had acess to something with the program on it, other than trying to remember all the little details. Thats just me, though, and I have no idea if this would be worth it or not.
As pointed out on another forum, the page source for origamiproject.com reveals essentially what it is: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" > <!-- Origami Project: the Mobile PC running Windows XP --> It was also confirmed today that it is not capable of playing xbox games.
There are rumors that origami is nothing but a new platform by MS and intel, since ASUS said they are going to build it too.
This is what I was saying. It's just a tablet pc in a 'cool' new casing. I'm sure that it will be easier to use due to the new design, but all in all it's just a pc. I know that tablet have some good uses and I have owned a few, but I always end up going back to my notebook. Maybe a device like this will change that, but I honestly don't see it happening yet.
I don't know about that, I get a lot of use out of my palm, but I mainly use it for music and wordprocessing. This thing looks neat, but way too big and clunky. Needs to be thinner, like one of those tablet things they use on Star Trek.
YEah someone said they were going to be around the $500 mark. I will be buying one if they are that cheap.
I think it was quoted as $500-$800. Which is pretty damn good. As a musician, I can think of about 1000 uses for this - both traveling and gigging. I can't wait to try one out.
We have more alleged images of upcoming non-pc, non-PDA, ultra mobile PC Origami, these from Intel-sponsored hype site UMPC.com. Along with the quad photo is a bit of text describing what the ultra mobile PC will be able to do, including play online games, video, music, and TV shows. It also mentions that the UMPC will be able to “identify its environment.†It’s widely believed that the chip giant will give us the full announcement today on Origami, but until then, these pictures will have to do. We’ll try to contain our excitement (yawn). Source : http://us.gizmodo.com/gadgets/pcs/is-this-origami-158817.php
